We had the good fortune of connecting with Ronni Mardor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ronni, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
Being born and raised in Israel, my heritage and culture effected, and still effect, my approach to music and life in general. I’m originally from Israel, but after 21 years I decided to move to London in order to pursue a career in music. Following a 4 years songwriting degree in London, I continued my journey and moved to California where I’ve been since. Israel is a tiny country, combining people from all over the world who got there, based on the idea that is their ‘safe haven’. By doing so, Israel is full of cultures from different parts of the world, creating a unique ‘Israeli fusion’ in art, music, fashion, cuisine and storytelling.
The other side is of course the non-stop conflict which makes one, from a very young age, to try and understand the complicity of life, of what is real freedom and what is fear.
Only by ‘leaving’, I started to understand my unique perspective as an Israeli on the outside world. Being bi-lingual helped me working the craft of storytelling to the max, combining the meanings from these two very different languages (English & Hebrew)

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
So! I’m an Israeli-American Theatrical pop singer songwriter. Featuring quirky illustrative language and dynamic vocal performance, I’ve been telling my story on stages around the world. I love telling a story through music, I love the dramatic effect the stage add and the fact we can be non-apologetic on it. as an LGBTQ+ member and a jewish woman, I feel I can say & sing on stage much more than I ever dared to do off it.
I was lucky to be asked to narrate the children’s fiction book ‘What Will They Say?’ by Orrit Danin, that delightfully presents the conflict between our inner wishes to do all we can dream of and the concern about ‘what others will think of me’.

This book was what led me to push through my boundaries & fears and create my first solo show!

My debut show, ‘Anonymous Rose’, will go on the stage on spring 2023 and I’m extremely excited about that! ‘Anonymous Rose’ sums up the essence of my musical journey so far –

**’Anonymous Rose’ is a one-woman cabaret style musical show, dealing with the topics of Anxiety, ‘Coming out’ & self acceptance. We get a glimpse of the world within Ronni Mardor’s inner child, her twisted (or perhaps only real) observation of our world and exploring what does it mean to be ALIVE (and why does it scare the f*ck out of us)

The child who’s running the show is not always visible as the adult takes charge and explains why the FEAR is an obstacle she feels she needs to get rid of. But throughout the show, we see more and more delightful moments where the inner child takes the control and throws us into a world free of limitations and concerns. The inner child is terrified about the world collapsing in on itself one random day, don’t get me wrong, but as she’s learning to accept & let go of her guards she becomes beautiful, powerful & radiant – like a red rose.
This is ‘Anonymous Rose’.**

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love the never ending live music scene, weather in small or large scale! So I’ll definitely take them to some of the more intimate music venues such as the Hotel Cafe in Hollywood or Republic of Pie in NOHO. The beach is a must when visiting LA, os we’ll probably walk from Santa Monica’s pier down all the way to Venice beach and end up grabbing food from one of the local gastropubs there.
Local breakfast at Aroma Tea & Coffee and later we’ll grab boba tea at TEAPOP.
if we’re in the mood for a nature easy walk, we’ll go to Franklin Canyon Park or the Hollywood Reservoir.
Also the Markets!! Day & night markets all over LA that are filled with local vendors and amazing food. We’ll definitely go to Smorgasburg Market on Sunday for some extraordinary food trucks.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Oh my gosh, so many! I mean, my parents first of all! they support me with this crazy journey. it took a great effort to believe I’m not going to be this ‘starving musician that will live on their expense forever’ and I’m so happy they still believe in it 🙂
Another one is a my great mentor & friend, Julian Marshall, who’s been by my side for the past 5 years. Julian is an incredible composer & teacher and I owe him so much <3
