Meet Royce Correa | Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Royce Correa and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Royce, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I never pursued this for fame or attention. I need it. If I go a long time without doing anything, and try to be normal, I get antsy and anxious. So I turn to my art every-time. There is just something special about letting all the things out of my head and my heart, and being able to put it into my work. Also, I just never know what life is going to inspire me with. Things happen, new experiences occur, and I somehow want that to be sealed and kept forever, in whatever form that may be. It can be dance, it can be art, it can be music. I like to look at things like a gallery, or even a book. You can scroll through the old chapters, or see the paintings from different periods of time, and you can appreciate it for what it was. The process never gets old, and at the end of the day, I feel like that’s what I’m meant to do.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I like to consider myself like a swiss army knife. I’m lucky to be able to do a lot of different things. Alot of people try to tell you to focus on one thing, but I really think my vast interests have taken me to so many cool and exciting places. Because of that spirit, I have been able to act in Film, TV, and Theater. On top of that, I have worked with many talented musicians, from song writing, to production, to even vocals. When it comes to dance, I’ve competed in salsa, hip hop, breakdance, even in music videos and musicals. Lastly, my art designs has been featured in galleries, Spotify, fashion, and even as tattoos. The point is, never limit yourself. If something inspires you, make it happen. Who cares what people think or tell you. If I listened to most people, I would have never have done any of those things. I think that is what really sets me apart. Be true to yourself, and listen to your gut.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
A week with me would be filled with a lot of color and vibrant tastes. I would start right off the bat with the beach. The beach has been a constant inspiration in my life. Something about the ocean, the sand, it’s just absolutely gorgeous. Laying out with some reggaeton music and a few drinks is an ideal vibe for my tropical spirit. There’s also no trip without food. Los Angeles is home to some of the best Mexican food, so I would indulge in those flavors and be sure to satisfy my cravings for seafood, tacos, and spice. Lastly, there’s no Royce without dance. I would then go to a spot with a live salsa band, and dance the night away!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to recognize my grandparents. Both sides of my grandparents immigrated from Colombia. This was at a time where Colombia had its fair share of problems. However, they decided to risk everything in pursuit of a better life. They came to this country speaking no english and with no money. Without that decision, I would not be where I am today. Just seeing their work ethic, and their relentless spirit, inspires me everyday. They also engraved in me my very early experiences to music, fashion, dance, and art. From seeing my grandmother sewing clothes in her garage while listening to salsa, or my grandfather drawing in his sketchbooks and him dancing at our family parties, I am nothing without them. There is nothing more I want than to make them proud.
