Meet Rudy Rubio | Flavor Master

We had the good fortune of connecting with Rudy Rubio and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rudy, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
In 2017, I had a life-changing experience. I used to work in the hospitality industry, where getting days off or vacations was extremely rare.
In May 2017, one of the managers got fired, leading to a shuffle and adjustment in the schedule. Thanks to this incident, I had four consecutive days off. When I saw this opportunity, I decided to visit my family in Mexico.
To make a long story short, I spent four glorious and amazing days with my family. When I returned from this mini vacation, I realized that moving forward, I wanted to have control over my time.
I believed that I could achieve this by becoming self-employed.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
“Joy on a Stick Handcrafted Popsicles” is a project born during the challenges of the COVID era.
This endeavor emerged during one of the toughest periods many of us have ever faced. The driving force behind it was a simple but profound desire: to bring a little bit of joy and happiness to people’s lives during these unprecedented times.
That’s why our slogan became “Smile at First Bite.” Regardless of how someone may be feeling – whether angry or sad – we firmly believe that a delicious popsicle has the power to brighten their day. Our popsicles are a symbol of love and positivity.
What truly sets us apart are our unique flavors, such as our top-selling sweet corn, the beloved Thai tea, and the ultimate favorite among teenagers, Arnold Palmer.
At Joy on a Stick, we specialize in handcrafted popsicles, creating them in small batches using only real ingredients like genuine fruit and cream. We take pride in offering a diverse range of exciting flavors that can bring joy to everyone’s taste buds.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First, we’ll embark on a picturesque hike in Griffith Park. Los Angeles is truly blessed with its stunning hills and lush greenery, making Mother Nature a perfect companion.
Afterward, we’ll head over to one of my all-time favorite spots, Urth Cafe, for a delightful breakfast.
If we decide to fully indulge in the day, post-breakfast, we can venture to Redondo Beach to bask in the sun and the soothing embrace of the ocean.
For lunch, Los Angeles spoils us with some of the best tacos in the US. We’ll be grabbing some delicious street tacos.
To cap off this incredible day, we’ll make our way to catch the breathtaking sunset over the Palos Verdes cliffs! 🌄 Let the adventure begin!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to extend my deepest and most heartfelt gratitude to my wonderful friend, Dina Cervantes. Dina, you have always been there for me, offering a listening ear and unwavering support.
It’s thanks to Dina and our beautifully deep and meaningful conversations that this project came to life. Her insights and encouragement were the driving force behind its successful launch.
I’d also like to express my sincere appreciation for the book Dina recommended, which not only inspired this project but also guided me through a transformative journey: “Who Moved My Cheese” by the insightful Spencer Johnson.
And to my dear friends, Benny and Marilyn, I want to send you a warm and profound thank you. You were instrumental in igniting the initial spark of this project with your unwavering support and belief in me. Your friendship means the world to me, and I am truly grateful for your contributions to this journey.
