Meet Rumi Currie | Holistic Health Practitioner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Rumi Currie and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rumi, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
So here is background on my story! I was an athlete in my younger days. Being around athletes made me want to study sports medicine in college as I was also inspired to go into a field where I could help people. However, one of my friends suggested I go into nursing so that is how got my start in the medical field. During my time working as a medical technician and nursing assistant in various settings, I saw people suffer from daily pain which made me feel helpless because I could not do more than just giving them medication.
One day, I found a patient in severe pain who looked pale. I decided to give them a back rub to try and help. To my surprise, the patient’s circulation improved and their pain eased, giving them life again. After a few more sessions, this patient told me I should become a therapist instead of a nurse, saying I had “healing hands.” So I switched from nursing school to a university program focused on becoming a therapist.
At first, I obtained a massage certification, but to deepen my understanding of the human body, I further studied pain management, physiology, kinesiology, pathology, and anatomy in-depth, eventually becoming a Neuromuscular Therapist. From there, I decided to pursue a career in holistic health to help heal others. I discovered Bowen therapy along the way, and became captivated by Bowen’s methods as I experienced its healing power first-hand on my chronic back, neck and shoulder pain accumulated from my nursing days.
So, I decided to learn this technique along with the use of essential oils and other holistic health practices to transform my life… and since then, I’ve been pain and illness free for 3 years. Now, I continue to use natural ways to support myself and my patients at the Rose Bowen Therapy Clinic.
Starting my own business was driven by a passion of helping others heal naturally, the way I had. Through my own personal experience with Bowen Therapy, I saw firsthand how effective this treatment was. So, I wanted to create a space where other people could experience long lasting, transformative healing, rather than just managing symptoms.
My thought process was simple.
Follow my passion (healing others)
Provide something unique (many people do not know what Bowen Therapy is and I wanted to change that.),
Create a Heart-Centered business (build a practice that prioritizes genuine care, trust and personal connection.)
Embrace independence (having my own business allows me to work in alignment with my values, without limitations from corporate structures.)
Overall, my goal was not just to start a business, it was to create a healing movement where people could experience relief and a renewed sense of well-being.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business stands out because I take a holistic approach to patient care. I focus on listening to each client’s body to determine the most effective treatment for them. Rather than viewing my role as “fixing” my clients, I see myself as a guide on their healing journey. My goal is to equip them with the tools and resources necessary to accelerate and support their healing process. It’s a partnership – a team effort that requires dedication from both sides. At the heart of my brand are genuine healing and trust. My business is not just about providing a service – it’s about helping people experience true transformation.
The journey of growing this business has been far from easy. When I first started, Bowen Therapy was my sole treatment option. As I welcomed more clients, I recognized a deeper need to help them on an even greater level. This led me to continuously expand my skill set, adding complementary treatments that not only supported Bowen Therapy but accelerated its effectiveness. Whenever I encountered a condition outside of my expertise, I made it a priority to learn more so I could provide even better care. At the end of the day, my focus is always on the well-being of my clients.
Running my own business has taught me invaluable lessons, one of the most important being that asking for help is not a sign of weakness. As a single mother, I often felt compelled to carry the weight of everything on my shoulders alone, but I’ve realized that self-care is essential. Mental and emotional health are crucial, and when I nurture these aspects, I can serve my clients better. Striking a healthy balance is key—when I’m feeling mentally well, I can show up for my clients in the best way possible. Though some days can feel lonely, I find comfort in knowing I’m not alone; many other business owners have faced and overcome similar challenges. In addition to this, taking risks is essential to growth. When I decided to leave the conventional healthcare business and pursue holistic healing, it was a big risk. But I knew deep down that this was my calling, so I took a leap of faith!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In Newport Beach, I would take my guest on a hike near the ocean, followed by a nice lunch spot, and afternoon snack at a cute local coffee shop. I love checking out new coffee shops so this is a must for me!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shoutout my kids for being so patient with me. I am a single mother, and they’ve done their best to support me, always showing me and my business love no matter what. At the same time, my mom is my mentor. My mother always believed in me. She never told me no, she always encouraged me to do anything I wanted. She had unconditional faith in me. Even when I made mistakes, she said that’s how I learned and continued to teach me with her positivity. I really want to make her proud and I dedicate this shout out to her.
