Meet Ryan Reid | Author, Podcaster & Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ryan Reid and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ryan, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
This creative career path was not something I imagined I would fall into this late in life. When I was in high school, I did have aspirations to become an entertainer after finding the joy from participating in the Choir and Theatre electives. This journey started as a way to heal my Mental Health without realizing the issues I was dealing with under the surface. Things said and the people I was involved with led me from that dream, and into something they considered to be more “realistic”. Years after high school with children, marriage, and work I still felt empty and needed a change.
I love Movies and Television and the stories I was able to experience within them. I started free writing a story, a sentence here, a paragraph there until it became intoxicating. I caught the writing bug. I was never a “reader”, barely picked up a book, one day my brother handed me a book from an anime I enjoyed which sparked the idea, “Maybe I could make one these.” and then with the help of YouTube, I did. With the combination of therapy, the completion of my first book, and seeking out my happiness, I reacquired my love for entertaining and wanted to create art that can reach/save someone like it did for me.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am proud and excited for everything my imagination creates. It is the only skill that I have been able to subconsciously hone throughout my entire life. It is constantly improving, evolving, and is the strongest ability that I have in my arsenal. My imagination comes through various channels, writing, drawing(horribly), digital art, songs and singing, even just thinking.
It was not easy to get to where I am, my life drastically changed. I went from a family man to just a man. My life goals changed as my passions changed, while everyone I was involved with stayed in their box, I wondered what was on the outside. Through these tremendous changes, I experienced incredibly sad moments, but the truly joyous moments outweighed everything. I was able to find reasons to smile while learning about my mental health’s lust for creativity.
I have learned to trust my instincts again. Finding the things that make you happy is finding your own path in life. I believe in that phrase that gets expressed normally with a grudge “Do what you want….” We all should live without regrets, live to make ourselves happy, weigh our choices, and follow our instincts.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take a friend to see some of the areas that have brought some great memories. Throughout the week we would visit many places like going to Flappers in Burbank to have some quick laughs. We would take a Tour at Warner Bros. Studios and check out their Harry Potter and DC Universe exhibit. We would spend a day at Universal Studios Amusement Park and check out the Santa Monica Pier. We could finish off the busy week with some drinks at Fantasia Billiards and head to AMC for a movie after.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to shoutout at the Entertainment Industry as a whole. Every person from the Assistants, Grips, Sound, Camera, Security, Makeup, Casting, Lighting, Art, Costumers, Animators, Comedians, Producers, Directors, Actors, Etc. Television and Movies are the reason I can find joy in life.
I am the youngest of five children. With such busy schedules, I spent most of my family bonding growing up through watching the families in the screen. My emotional development, the tears, the laughs, and shocking adventures were through the various situations I experienced in the stories I visually had. Thank you to the teams that made so many influences in my life.
