We had the good fortune of connecting with Sacred Amos and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sacred, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
For me giving up is really hard, it’s not a part of my thought process when I am striving to achieve something that I want. Do I get frustrated, angry sometimes and super emotional…Yes and sometimes I will walk away. I always come back and I keep pushing. Take a break, gather your bearings, giving up is not an option. Why?
Because everything in life, Good or Bad, happens for a reason. It is a part of the journey!
Be honest with yourself. This thing that you are doing, are you happy or just getting by? Do you feel fulfilled at the end of the day? Are you making this decision or feeling this way due to fear or a lack of motivation or is this simply not right for you? Maybe it is taking you away from what truly inspires you and makes you happy.
None of this is about inadequacies or weakness. It’s about knowing yourself, what makes you happy, complete, content. It is about facing those fears, pushing yourself when no one else will, and passion.
My motto is, “Anything worth having is worth working hard for.” (my dad taught me that) Love, photography, life, self-care, money, anything! If it is worth having it won’t be easy. If it is easy, run fast the other way. Usually, that will take you all the way out and make you have regrets. The devil lives in that word, Easy.
The only clear sign to me that it is time to “Let Go” of anything, is when you no longer have the energy, desire, or drive to go after it. Passion usually comes with a relentless hunger.
What comes easy won’t last. What lasts won’t come easy.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Moon Reflections Photography is a family owned and operated business. We recently added videography to our services, Supreme is the head of that department. I am the photographer and creative director. We are a boutique business that specializes in lifestyle photography and providing a catered experience in branding, headshots, and high school seniors.
When we aren’t shooting, we are freelancing for magazines, companies and local newspapers. As well as teaching the youth to follow their passion with photography classes and workshops. Some of which are free to Detroit residents between 12 and 18 years of age.
We are a black, veteran owned business whose passion is to inspire and motivate others by our words, our actions and our purpose.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Favorite spots in The D! That is easy.
Detroit is full of history, struggle, success, strength and hustle.
If you were to visit we would visit places like Flood’s Bar and Grill, Baker’s Jazz Lounge & Restaurant for good music and food. Have a fun day by the water and visit Campus Martius, Roller skate on the brand new outdoor skatepark downtown off Monroe St. Visit the beach and taste some of the best smoked meats at Smokey G’s Smokehouse, Valde Park off of Atwater. If you are looking for something sweet then head over to Sweet Potato Sensations for the best pies and good hearty soups or stop in for breakfast and try their salmon croquettes.
Last but not least, Livernois Ave., what was once called The Fashion Ave. It is the largest black owned shopping area with food, music, shopping, and entertainment.
Things are growing and changing every day, there will probably be more fun to be had when you get here.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Wow! I have lived a life full of inspiration and motivation from so many angles.
My dad would be the inspiration behind how I grew to become an entrepreneur and the drive and work ethic I have.
My Aunt purchased my first “pro” camera for me when I was in high school. She always supported my passions without question.
My Mom has always been a supportive mom. Willing to give her last to help me see my dreams to fruition.
My husband, my partner, my best friend, truly the love of my life several lifetimes over…he is the real support, encouragement, love that helped me to grow to this point. He teaches me what unconditional means in love, in support, in my work, my health, he is my balance. He showed me that if we can make it through our own devices we can be something amazing!
What is your deepest fear? …That you are powerful beyond measure!
