We had the good fortune of connecting with Safia Pulliam and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Safia, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Yes! I always believe in myself and what I’m doing. I love giving myself over to ideas and seeing how they turn out. Sometimes I don’t know why I’m doing a certain event or working in a certain way, but the inspiration I have keeps me going and believing in the idea and creative process. I’ve come to learn to define my success according to the standards and goals I’ve set for me. Period.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

I started out in the beauty industry 20 years ago as a Makeup and Nail Artist. It’s been a fun, creative, and rewarding industry. It’s been awesome to be a part of a client’s vision for themselves. I’m always excited to work with talented people in beautiful spaces and places. Now that I’m going into wellness work I’m excited to bring together two of my favorite industries-beauty and wellness. Creating experiential events that guests can learn, enjoy and get what they need in order to feel better and be happy brings me so much joy!

I also feel a social responsibility to give back so with all the events and offerings I provide I either give a portion of the proceeds to an organization important to me or collect donations to be distributed to those in need.

Lessons that I’ve learned from being in both industries so far have
been:

#1 Know who I am and accept that I am constantly evolving and changing personally and professionally.

#2 Show up ready to work with excitement. It makes the experience much better!

#3 Speak only good things about myself and others because the power of the word is real and it will manifest.

#4 Be kind, it really does make a difference in the life of yours and others.

#5 Keep asking until you get that YES!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers?
If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could
take them to?
To show my BFF a great time in LA we’d start the day with movement and mindfulness for sure. Either yoga or a walk up Culver City stairs. Breakfast at Blue Jam café or Roscoe Chicken and Waffles! Check out Santee Alley or the Flower district for cool and unique accessories and beautiful flowers. We’d go to one of the Korean spas for body scrubs and steam rooms. I love nature in California so a visit to the Huntington Library for the botanical gardens and museums.

Do a cookout and backyard party with family and friends.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
So many people and situations have helped to shape my path so first of all the Creator God for giving me the vision and dreams. My mother exposed me to new places and nice things growing up so that made me realize that I was limitless. I have a partner that is relentless with his support of me. That support comes in the form of advice, a hug, talking me out of sending a hot headed response. It helps so much!

I also have been extremely blessed to connect with likeminded women and men from all backgrounds that are successful in their own right. All of them are kind, positive, genuine and ambitious people. Seeing their journeys and sharing in conversation with them has been motivating and inspiring. It’s that type of energy that allows me to bet on myself and know that I can create a successful business. I just have to know what I want, put in the work, and allow it.
