We had the good fortune of connecting with Sahara Brownlyons and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sahara, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
The single most important decision that I have made that contribute to my success will definitely have to be staying consistent consistent work means everything in this industry the key to have a long clientele base depends on your consistency there are times that I want to give up and didn’t actually think I would make it, but I stuck through regardless of what anyone said i made it work that and along with customer service customer service in this business is key as a hairstylist you have to have great I mean great excellent customer service it comes first you can be the best hair salons in the world but if your customer service sucks you will never be successful,I live by that and stand by that, I honestly believe that is one of the keys to my success, besides “slaying hair that is” 😉

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What is it about my business, where to start I have started actually doing hair at 11 years old yes believe it or not 11 years old! A Compton girl with a big dream of owning her own salon has definitely came true, although it wasn’t easy but definitely worth it, I’m proud of myself I never giving up pushing through and handling business.

One of the most key factors to a great business is customer service I would say I am honored and proud to say I put that before everything “customer service” in this industry is a must have, you can be the greatest stylist in the world but without customer service you are definitely fail I am a firm believer if that with my customer service knowledge and skills it has allowed me to be the successful Stylist /salon owner that I am today!!

Time management is definitely one of the key lesson I have learned along the way, One of the things that I have definitely learned in this industry is allowing yourself to have clients “in and out” With consistency in your work a great value /lesson that’s has definitely been learned.
So look out world and be ready I have just started it not only having a successful hair salon, I am proud to announce this summer I will be opening a beauty Supply Store this Summer along with a great Partner! So, look out world the beauty industry is mine and Sahara is here to stay!!!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
One of my hottest spot to go to is BOA steakhouse in West Hollywood, Such an amazing atmosphere along with great food! Tell Paul the General manager that Sahara and Kevin sent you!! 😉 Amongst things I am very very competitive LOL bowling is one of my favorite sporting activities to enjoy with family and friends now that California is slowly re-opening we are definitely excited to get back inside of an alley, you can definitely check out bowlmor in Anaheim near the happiest place on earth Disneyland! Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would definitely have to give recognition to my husband Kevin Lyons, my partner inside of the salon, he is an successful barber for over 25 years, He definitely deserves all the credit, He inspires me every day on his smart work Ethics, he was definitely my main cheerleader for attending cosmetology school 12 years ago, With a unisex Salon, we definitely have a great vibe that our salon brings and gift to our client we are so grateful and thankful and we just love it, A lot of relationships/marriages wouldn’t normally work-out with working with each other every day, but with our upbeat and great atmosphere it definitely works out never feels like we are at work which is a great thing.
