We had the good fortune of connecting with Saidy Salas Yu and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Saidy, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My personal thought process behind starting my business was rooted in a deep desire to encourage others to prioritize self-care. I wanted to create a safe space where individuals could explore their beauty routines and truly invest in themselves. I believe that self-care is not a selfish act; rather, it is essential for overall well-being. I have fostered an environment that promotes this mindset, I hope to inspire others to take the time they need to nurture themselves, allowing them to thrive both personally and in their relationships with others. Ultimately, my goal is to empower individuals to embrace self-care as a vital part of their lives.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is a deeply personal expression of who I am—imperfect, human, and emotionally attuned. What sets me apart is my authenticity; I don’t shy away from being honest and vulnerable in my work. I truly care about how others feel and the real experiences we all go through. I have a keen eye for detail, focusing on enhancing natural beauty rather than transforming it completely. My approach prioritizes effortless looks—think curled lashes, beautifully shaped brows, and glowing skin.

I’m particularly excited about my new sister company, Eyes For Beauty’s Skin, and our second location in Eagle Rock. We’re also launching a new online shopping site soon, which will allow us to reach even more people. A key part of our mission is to work with the community in Los Angeles to advocate for mental health, which is something I’m passionate about.

My professional journey has been filled with years of trial and error. I’ve dedicated myself to continuous learning, working in various salons and mastering skills in makeup, skin care, PMU brows, and chemical services. It hasn’t always been easy. I’ve faced challenges, including discrimination due to my Mexican heritage and being a woman in business. There have been moments when I’ve been belittled or told to tone down my cultural representation. However, I refuse to let negativity alter my perspective. I see the world as beautiful and my life as a vibrant tapestry woven with connections that transcend barriers.

The lessons I’ve learned along the way are invaluable: resilience, the importance of community, and the power of self-love. I want the world to know that my brand is a sanctuary for those who embrace their authentic selves and prioritize well-being. I hope to create a space where everyone feels valued and inspired to practice self-care.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We’d start at Holy Grounds, a cozy café known for its great coffee and welcoming atmosphere. Morning Activity: Next, we’d head to Little Tokyo. We can shop for delightful treats at Fugetsu-Do Bakery Shop, where we’ll find delicious mochi and unique trinkets. After exploring, we’d grab lunch at Avenue 26 Tacos, famous for their mouthwatering street tacos.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude and dedicate this shoutout to some incredible individuals and influences in my journey. First and foremost, I thank God for His guidance and strength, as my faith has been my foundation.

I am deeply grateful to my parents, Mama Bear Saydi and Papa Bear Adrian, who have supported me every step of the way. Their unwavering love and encouragement have been invaluable.

To my wonderful husband, Danny, I love you dearly; your support means the world to me. I also want to acknowledge my father-in-law, Hong Xi, for his continued encouragement.

A special shoutout goes to my clients, who feel like family to me. Your trust and loyalty inspire me every day. Lastly, I want to recognize my colleague and co-founder, of our sister company Alma, of Eyes for Beauty Skin. Thank you for sharing this incredible journey with me over the past eight years; it has truly been a whirlwind, and I couldn’t have done it without all of you!
