We had the good fortune of connecting with Saika Satomi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Saika, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
I would like to support many women for their wellness , beauty and find life goals that from my products, services, and experiences to take care of themselves and find their purpose and dreams in life.
I came from Japan 15 years ago. At the time, I was 21 years old and had no idea what I wanted to do and didn’t understand English. I just wanted to find something I could do.
I took on many challenges, failed, but kept learning and never gave up.
And now I’m passionate about the work I found I love them . I wondered who I was before I had no special skills. I’ve grown so much that I’ve gained confidence.
I think many people limit their own potential because of the environment and society they were born and raised in. I would be happy if many people realize that they can do and have more abilities than they think.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
In 2011 (I was 21 years old), I moved to LA from Japan to fulfill my dream of living an authentic life and work. I struggled and faced many setbacks without knowing English, but I strived every day with the desire to find something that only I could do. I didn’t even understand English.
I started as a waitress. It was hard because I couldn’t take even orders. I put all the money I earned toward my language school and beauty school, and life was tough, but I really wanted to find something that only I could do, and I love to live in LA.
I started living with my first homestay vegetarian family and learned about health and communication skills. During this time, I also pursued professional license in yoga, massage, and as an esthetician. I learned how beauty, mind, and physical health are deeply connected after
My story continues, “As I immigrated to the United States in 2011 to fulfill my dream. Then, I finally found the first passion I encountered was Eyelash Extension. After I learned lash extensions. I worked in an eyelash salon for two years, and immediately, In 2014, I rented a studio and my first local business in the States, SAIKA Beauty, an eyelash extension salon in Beverly Hills.
At that time, I was new to the business, and my English was only better than when I arrived, but somehow, I felt confident.
Since we opened now very grateful and many locals have been coming to us for a long time.
But When I opened the first year of SAIKA Beauty, I started to suffer from various symptoms like food allergies, chronic diarrhea, fatigue, and bad circulation for several years, all due to changes in living from Japan to the USA environment and overwork-related stress. While I was looking for relief after trying and failing numerous hospital visits and health tips, I learned about gut health and started to pay more attention to what my body was telling me. The stubborn symptoms started to disappear as I began the gut health journey, and I also noticed my mental clarity was much better. Gut health is not just physically important but mentally important as well. Both are connected.
While running the salon, I was very health conscious, and with the desire to provide organic protein products from LA to Japan, I founded THE MOMENT Inc. with in 2019 .( Now we have several products )
And during Covid,
I started to create a probiotic supplement brand called “ Re:Bio “ to support beauty and health from the gut. However, it actually took three years to create and finish product.
In 2022, she first launched “Re:Bio “in Japan followed by a US launch in 2023 September.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I simply want to show the California ocean, sunset and palm trees. The beauty of the sunset is different every day depending on the hue of the sunset and the beach.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am where I am today because of the support of the many people around me. My team, friends, family, and people other business. It’s nice we supporting each other.
And also I meet a lot of women because of my job. I also learn from many good things from them , the importance of self-expression, which is unique to American women, and the importance of enjoying being a woman. There are many wonderful people around me who are role models for women
I meant that is not just their appearance, but also their small considerations and thoughtfulness, their sense, their way of thinking…
The good things about wonderful people are,
I really take them as examples.
My friend here in LA who I’ve known for 15 years since then, She always writes a letter to me by hand every time any holidays, Thank you note and greetings with cute latter and sends it to me by mail many time in year.
Nowadays, we have texts and phone calls,
in this convenient society,
it is heartwarming to receive a letter when you least expect it.
These kinds of habits are easy to forget these days,
and it’s hard to do, isn’t it?It’s a really wonderful habit,
and it’s wonderful that women can continue to do it .
Here is another example,
A regular my lash salon customer who always wears heels (even her casual rain boots have heels ) and has a perfect hairdo. When | look at her feet, I can tell that she really has been wearing heels every day for decades. Very cool. With high heels every day ,, and she works from 5 am every with that and her sense of beauty is too good to imitate. I learn the importance of femininity every timere
