We had the good fortune of connecting with Sally Falkow and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sally, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I needed to work to provide for my family but I also wanted to be there to raise the boys. I believe strongly in the value of a mother being there for the first 5 years, at least. So I figured out how I could use my abilities to start a business and work from home.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What sets me apart is that I discovered the power of digital marketing and PR very early. I was invited to the Mioro-Electronic Development Center, Paisley University in Scotland in 1995. They were doing amazing cutting-edge work on the Internet. It opened my eyes to the possibilities for business. I asked them if this kind of technology would be available to the man in the street in the future and they said, Yes, in 20 years every business will be using broadband and video. That started me on my journey to learn everything I could about how to use this technology in marketing and PR.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Clearwater is an amazing place filled with incredible possibilities.
1. Sand Key Beach. it is a State Nature Park and the beach is spectacular. Although Clearwater Beach has been voted the best beach in America many times, I prefer Sand Key because it is quieter. Not crammed with holidaymakers or spring breakers.
2. Dunedin. the cutest little town. An interesting Main Street with independent little shops. Great restaurants, like Bon Appetit. It is right on the water and has a large deck where you can watch the sunset.
3. St. Pete’s. The Dali Museum. The Imagine Glass Museum
4. Cleveland Street Downtown Clearwater. Always a vibe. Lots of restaurants to choose from. My favorite is Clear Sky Cafe.
5, The Sound – the new venue in Coachman Park, They have world-class performers.
6. The Capitol Theater on Cleveland Street. they have interesting, different performers and singers there.
7. For a stunning night out – drive over the causeway to Tampa and go to the Straz Performing Arts Center. they have Broadway plays and musicals. All kinds of top-class entertainment.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
In 1999 I read The Cluetrain Manifesto. It showed me the future of marketing and PR. Doc Searls is a genius.
