We had the good fortune of connecting with Salong Namsa and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Salong, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I was born in Thailand and came to the United States as a 5 year old refugee. I grew up with both parents working from dusk till dawn trying to provide for a family of 4. I grew up surrounded by Southeast Asian communities and have always enjoyed getting communities together.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I founded Sabaidee Fest in hopes of uniting all Southeast Asian communities. I wanted to hold an event where we could highlight all cultures, cuisines, music and talents and simply enjoy each other’s company.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I enjoy hanging out with family and friends so we would visit Fresno, San Jose and Las Vegas. A quick trip to Yosemite and Sequoia National Park while in Fresno would be nice to enjoy nature. A visit to Big Sur, Carmel, Monterey and San Francisco while in the bay area for some sightseeing. Casinos and nightlife while in Vegas. I’m in SoCal so lots of beach destinations and good food for sure!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to thank my parents for their sacrifices and for instilling the importance of preserving culture and traditions.
