We had the good fortune of connecting with Sam Chung and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sam, what do you attribute your success to?
Diligence, and patience. I like to set 1 – 2 year plans for my creative approaches so I can take time to not only work on my craft meticulously but also to meet people and network.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
One major aspect that puts me apart from others is that I never look what’s right in front of me but rather something that I would achieve months and years later by diligently working on the same craft I love.

To get to where I am now, there were sleepless nights of networking in NY among the DJ community, still preparing for concerts, teachings and competitions during the daytime for cello; honestly balancing these two during my pivotal year during 2023 – 2025 was very difficult but I am proud that I did it because if I didn’t, I won’t have what I am provided right now.

I want the world to know that if you truly love something, it is okay to “disappear” and really work on it while finding ways to financially support yourself – you will be awarded later in your life.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to Whitney Museum, Kind Regards, Cold Spring Hiking Trails, and Dead Poet. These are the places in New York during the past 8 years of living here which had great impact on me during pivotal moments. I got to spend and have most unique interactions in Whitney Museum, Kind Regards was one of the first club/bar where I was provided with the opportunity to DJ, Cold Spring Hiking Trails reassured me whenever I was feeling lost with its beautiful scenery and nature, and last but not least, I’ve spent my time at Dead Poet bar with the most loved ones.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to shoutout to FAKEDEEPLEE and my old mentor Qiang Tu for my success. One taught me what it is like to create your own community in the DJ world and the other taught me how to make yourself marketable and play / create music that can be monetized without affecting your sound.
