Meet Sam Sherbin | Mixing Engineer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sam Sherbin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sam, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk is important to make positive career changes, especially in the music industry. Betting on myself was a way to help push my career forward in ways I could have never known before I jumped. For example, moving from NYC to LA over a year ago was a risk, but it paid for itself as I’ve made more career advances in six months than in two years of living in New York. It’s all about assessing the pros and cons. If there are more pros than cons for a creative risk, it’s probably best to take it and see where it goes!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I had a gut feeling that I wanted to be in business for myself somehow. Being an entrepreneur has no rulebook, and the challenges along the way were exciting. I saw the difficult times as opportunities for growth. There are no failures, just lessons learned. Every client teaches me something about how to effectively run my business better. How did they find out about my services? Was it online, referral, or just plain word of mouth?
The journey is different and changes consistently. Learning how to pivot is a skillset that you have to apply as soon as possible. I’m proud of my journey here! My studio has a different aesthetic than most. I have a fragrance collection, plants, natural light, and a friendly place for clients to sit.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
For breakfast, Teirra Mia is a go to for iced coffee and pastries. One of favorite spots in the city is in Los Feliz. I have to shoutout Loupiotte Kitchen which has the best french toast I’ve ever had. L’Antica Pizzeria da Michele has incredible Neapolitan pizza that is made with a brick oven. The classic Jeni’s stop for ice cream is perfect way to end the night with dessert. I love thrift shopping as well. Bearded Beagle in Highland Park always has amazing finds along with Crossroads Trading Co throughout the city. If you have a girlfriend or wife, take her to TenShoppe in Highland Park and sit in the boyfriend chair haha
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The most important shoutout I can give is to my parents. They always held me to a high standard and instilled work ethic, love, and support throughout my journey. My amazing sister Petra is a guiding light in my life as well. She is an inspiration for me to keep achieving what I set out to do. My grandmother Hinds is an unbelievable person. Her love and selflessness for our family is inspiring. She can make or fix anything; it’s amazing to see her work. My grandparents Samms in Florida are some of the most beautiful people I know. They always focus on doing the right thing, sharing their love for God, and keeping our family supported. My supportive girlfriend Amanda believes in me 100%, and my move to LA wouldn’t have been possible without my teammate. She keeps me grounded and focused on what matters. Nick Lee, Jeffery Miller, and my manager Max Cho (of Cho + Co) all helped elevate my musical game. A goal is a goal no matter the obstacles is what my friend Paul and I used to say when facing challenges. The Gulino family were early mentors and gave me access to Pro Tools early on! My friends from back home Adecka, Keith, Peter, and many others.
