We had the good fortune of connecting with Samantha Reckmeyer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Samantha, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I believe taking risks is essential for personal and professional growth. Remaining within our comfort zones stifles evolution. Every remarkable achievement stems from a willingness to take chances. When faced with decisions involving risk, I’m often reminded of the saying, “Nothing changes if nothing changes.” Hence, I advocate for embracing risks in both career and personal life as a pathway to self-improvement.
Much of my life has been defined by taking risks, whether for better or worse. I thrive on placing myself in uncomfortable situations because I believe it accelerates personal growth.
Despite my affinity for risk-taking, stepping out of my comfort zone in my work remains challenging. My work is a sanctuary where I feel secure and competent. Venturing into unfamiliar territory entails the risk of judgment, which is profoundly vulnerable given the dedication poured into each endeavor. However, stagnation deprives us of the opportunity to connect with others through our work.
Embracing challenges is crucial for self-evolution and reinvention, which I find so exciting !

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think what sets me apart as an artist is that I take on lots of different mediums, and don’t think too much about the technicality of each medium which allows for me to be very explorative in my work, which can yield interesting results. I’m early on in my professional career and have much bigger aspirations than where I am currently at, I think my biggest challenge at the moment is to keep believing in myself. I want people to know that Im self made, and care about my art and the people who wear it. That my brand is for everyone and aims to gather people together through recognition of wearing certain pieces that represent important ideologies , life experiences or lessons, I hope my art creates conversations, and communities between strangers.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ooh ! I would take them to my favorite coffee stop, Maru in the arts district, You must get the creme top. I would then take them to Silver Lake or Los Feliz flea market, for some great vintage shopping. Id also hit some of my favorite natural wine shops in silver lake, Prado, La pharmacia and Voodoo Vin are a few.

I’d hit Pace, a cozy Italian spot up in the canyon. And make sure to hit some of my favorite handroll and sushi places like Kazunori, and Katanya. I love a good dirty martini and a hotel bar, so we would stop by a few of those to get the night going, and end the night with dancing of course!

Everyone who comes to LA of course wants to see the beach so I’d drive them along the coast towards Malibu, stop at some little restaurants, pick up a lunch and picnic beach side wherever we feel is the right time to pull over. We would have to stay for sunset, because I love the sunset!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The only way I ever gained enough courage to practice my art, and pursue it as a career is through the love, support and encouragement of my friends and family. Personally, as an artist so often I have felt so defeated about if practicing my art, not believing it was “valuable” or “notable” enough for a long time, but my friends and family have always encouraged me otherwise.
