We had the good fortune of connecting with Samia Ansari and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Samia, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
From a young age, I harbored a unique vision for my future, one that diverged from the traditional career paths of law, medicine, or engineering. Raised by a resilient single mother, I carried a multitude of dreams in my heart, and my veins pulsed with unwavering ambition. My aspirations revolved around bringing people together through the art of event hosting. As a deeply connected individual to my desi culture, I was determined to craft events that not only resonated with my heritage but also celebrated diversity in a meaningful, enjoyable, and unforgettable way. Despite the daunting nature of this unconventional journey, I was unwaveringly fueled by one unwavering constant: the relentless drive to turn my dreams into reality.
The art of uniting people held a special place in my heart, and I yearned to explore the realms of creativity. The hustle, discipline, and the sweet taste of success were my fervent aspirations. I envisioned orchestrating grand concerts featuring beloved desi celebrities, orchestrating weddings that spanned across the nation, delving into the intricate world of public relations, and leaving my indelible mark on the vibrant tapestry of South Asian fashion. Early on, it became clear that I wasn’t destined for just one path; I was meant to wear multiple hats in the creative arena, where every role I undertook harmonized seamlessly, creating a symphony of creative brilliance.
Today, I proudly stand as an award-winning and nominated wedding planner of the year. Yet, my journey began at the tender age of 18, fueled by a deep-rooted desire to one day organize concerts. To lay the foundation for that dream, I embarked on the wedding planning path, immersing myself in the art of event execution. It demanded years of unwavering dedication, guidance from mentors, relentless practice, and a resilience that knew no bounds. Entering the event arena meant sacrificing personal life moments – weekends, birthdays, even friends’ weddings – as the hustle consumed every ounce of my being. At that juncture, work and life were one, and balance was but a distant concept. Moreover, as a young entrepreneur, I grappled with adversity, anxiety, and the daunting task of self-reliance, all while juggling college and another full-time job. It was a formidable journey, to say the least.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I take immense pride and humility in sharing that, in my early twenties, I had the privilege of orchestrating events for some of the most prominent artists in the South Asian community, including ProhpeC, Ezu, and Zack Knight. Many more too come!
Navigating the concert organizer world as a solo Gen Z South Asian woman presented its unique set of challenges. I encountered situations where individuals attempted to exploit my services or abrupt communication cutoffs because they weren’t used to seeing a female in this area and that is why we need more of us. To counter these obstacles, I steadfastly maintained my boundaries, which, over time, cultivated an unshakable sense of resilience and confidence.
Moreover, on the other side of events as a wedding planner I create immersive experiences for all South Asian Clientele Worldwide and Nationwide. The moment before the doors open taking a look at the room in silence and knowing you spent anywhere from 1 -3 years to craft this, a night two individuals will remember their entire lives and will remember you for assisting is the most humbling and grateful feeling in this world.
I want the world to know that it’s possible to transform your dreams into a reality, and to set an example for South Asian youth who are also looking to step into nontraditional careers in adulthood. If anyone tells you, you can’t have it all and must choose they are wrong. You can have everything – it’s just one step at a time.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’d kick off our day with a refreshing green tea from one of the charming cafes in Uptown Dallas. Whenever I crave a break from the hustle and bustle of my usual surroundings, Dallas is my sanctuary in the USA. You can’t go wrong in this city, as the locals radiate kindness, and there’s an abundance of tranquility. It’s a place where I can let my creativity flow, tackle my work, and savor life to the fullest.
We’d start our adventure by strolling along the pier, savoring breathtaking waterfront views, and then head towards the Dallas Botanical Gardens. A visit to The Mediterranean spot, one of my all-time favorite dinner spots, would be an absolute must.
As the day winds down, we’d ensure we’re back in time to catch the mesmerizing sunset from one of the downtown skyline buildings. Perhaps, we’d cap off our day with a movie at a local theater or unwind at a cozy lounge, allowing us the perfect opportunity to catch up and relish the moments.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I must give special recognition to my incredible mother. As a single South Asian mother, she raised me with unwavering love and dedication. And if that weren’t challenging enough, she had a daughter like me, who was determined to venture into the creative realms.
However, she never once hindered my path. Instead, she imparted the invaluable ethics of our culture and religion, allowing me to navigate how they harmonize with my lifestyle and career choices. I count myself incredibly fortunate to have such a supportive family, as their unwavering encouragement has undoubtedly made this challenging journey much more manageable.
