We had the good fortune of connecting with Samson Crouppen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Samson, how do you think about risk?
Risk-taking is everything in my life. I continue to throw myself off into the deep end without a life jacket. I’m not irresponsible I’m not jumping out of planes I have three children but I’m taking chances as an artist it’s all about taking risks. I just released my first standup special and I relate it to releasing a stripper’s reel. Like hey everyone I’m naked and vulnerable and here is my body what do you think of it?. It was one of the scariest things I’ve ever had to take a risk on. I had to invest my personal savings on myself and that is the biggest risk you can take.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am most proud of my new standup special that I just released called proof I was here. I produced it on my own and edited it on my own with the help of Del Harrison. I’ve learned along the way in my career that you’re stuck on an island and nobody is coming for you and you need to figure out how to get off the island. My hope with my standup special is to take my whole story of being in LA for 20 years raising a family and tell my a story
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First we grab a coffee at my spot part so Gelato and Silver Lake.I’d take them on a hike in Griffith Park then we would go to Din Tai Fung and he Chinese soup dumplings then we would go get a Thai massage. Then we would stop by a dispensary pick up a bunch of weed and some THC soda. Then go back to my house chill out on my deck Pull a passion fruit from one of my vines pour that THC soda in with some vodka passion fruit and ice. Stir that sh*t up. Kick back for a little bit. Then go get dinner at Hama Sushi in little Tokyo. Stop in Pop Killer and get a bad a*s Tshirt. Then we head over to the lost spirits distillery tour. It’s like a Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory But they feed you they’re different flavors of whiskey. Lastly after we’re drunk and have taken an Uber to Koreatown to go to break room 88. And if you like to party hard-core to the early morn then we go rent a karaoke room and keep the party going all night long. Did I mention we ate mushrooms earlier in the day?

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Del Harrison. One of the most talented selfless people I know in this business. I learned a little bit ago that You can’t expect people to be as loyal as you are. And Del Harrison is one of those people who has supported me lifted me up and put me before her own best interest. It would be my dream to be able to return the favor with mounds of success.
