We had the good fortune of connecting with Sandi Amodeo-Burgess and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sandi, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I wanted the freedom to create a space that felt safe. When you work for a bigger company you have to abide by so many rules, but in the beauty industry its so important to create a space that your client can feel 100% relaxed and cared for. Not like they are just a number and rushed in and out. I wanted to be able to nourish relationships with my clients and customize their experience to their individual needs, and the only way I could truly do that is in my own space.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am an esthetician and I specialize in Brazilian waxing and customized facials for all skin types. I was a hairdresser for over a decade and while I enjoyed the social aspect of the field I never grew a real love or passion for it. I always had more interest in the esthetics side of the industry so I took various classes to further my education in the skin care field. I took a step away from the industry when I got pregnant & stayed home. After having my second child I was ready and very eager to get back to working outside of the home. I didn’t want to go back into hairdressing, I wanted to work in skincare. Its what I wanted to do since the beginning of my career so I thought since I’m starting again why not do what I’ve wanted all along. I got hired at a couple big companies and while it was a good growth experience I just wanted to start my own business where I could make it my own and create a space where everyone could feel comfortable coming to. At the company I was waxing at I would get clients that would tell me that they’ve been turned away from getting waxing services because they were told they were too big to be waxed or that the waxer they had made them feel uncomfortable because they commented on their body, so I knew I wanted to create a space that everybody and anybody can come get a great waxing and facial experience and feel confident that they will be made to feel 100% comfortable and receive an amazing service. I want people to know if they’ve hesitated to book any waxing or facial service because of any insecurity or past bad experience, I’m your girl.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

I would start with breakfast and matcha lattes at Urth Caffe, followed by a hike up Eaton Canyon. I’m not a huge hiker but if this area has so many beautiful trails, any visitor needs to experience at least one.

Newport or Laguna beaches are beautiful and super fun to check out. Lots of great places to eat and so many cool shops and restaurants to check out.

We would defently have to have dinner at The Derby in Arcadia. It’s like walking back in time to the 1940′s.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband has been a a big part of my success. He has encouraged and supported any ideas I’ve had to make my business come to life. He also helps with the technological part of the business, which is absolutely not my thing .
