Meet Sanniyah Antoinette | Musician & Model

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sanniyah Antoinette and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sanniyah, how do you think about risk?
In my opinion, Life is all about taking risks! I’ve always wanted to move to Los Angeles from Philadelphia since I was a junior in High-school. This was back in 2016, and I’m now living in LA in 2021 (22 years of age). I’ve always wondered about the “what if”, and it was so easy for my mind to automatically shoot towards the negative. What if no one cares about my music, what if I’m not good enough to model, what if I move to Los Angeles and not fit in, etc. It was the biggest risk of my life to pick up my whole 22 years living in Philadelphia, on my own, and move here not knowing if I 100% had the job I currently have (I was in the process of interviewing for it), and if I got approved for my apartment (literally found out that I was approved while I was in air hours before landing). I risked having my career be a success transitioning over across the country in a brand new environment, and I took the risk of having very little funds in my account while doing so. My biggest advice to anyone who is worried about taking that leap towards your dreams and happiness is to just do it. Regardless if it ends up being a success or not, it’s a learning experience, and it will help guide you down a path that you wouldn’t have walked on if you didn’t take that one simple risk.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Music has and always will be my number one passion in life. I’ve attended School Of Rock Philadelphia for 5 years prior to attending college at The University of the Arts for Music Business, Technology, and Entrepreneurship. Over those few years, I’ve been workshopping the sound that I want to go towards, and I’ve finally just recently believed I’ve found it. The new music that myself and some amazing/ talented people have been working on, is some of my prized possessions and I cannot wait to release it into the world. Yes, I do have some music out at the moment, but those was part of my trial. Leaving them up shows my growth in not only a musician, but the development of who I am as a person, and for that reason they will stay up! During the time of my workshopping, I’ve decided to focus heavily on my modeling career through social media. With that being said, I’m super grateful that I’ve caught the eye of some major companies like: Hot Topic, Killstar, Sephora, Kiss, Lyft, Lounge Underwear, Disturbia, Demonia, and many more. I haven’t always been the most confident girl, I actually was quite insecure due to the intense amount of bullying in my younger years. Modeling helped regain the strength that I once lost, and helped me gain back the power that I once didn’t know I even held.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Considering I just moved to Los Angeles around a month ago on my own, it would be an adventure for the both of us! My best friend and I ( Cierra) love attending concerts, and always wished we lived by a beach when I was stationed in Philadelphia. I would first take her to Santa Monica, bring a picnic basket full of our favorite foods, and a speaker to play our favorite tunes! ( shoutout to Palaye Royale for always being our go-to haha). Then, I LOVE the alternative scene wherever I go! People in that niche tend to be misunderstood time and time again. Now, being in 2021 and it’s more of a trend, people have opened up to it more. That makes me happy because some of the nicest people I’ve met goes hope and blasts Judas Priest at the loudest capacity haha
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give a huge shoutout to the professors, staff, and friends who are associated to The University of The Arts ( In Philadelphia) along the 4 years I’ve attended. Without the knowledge I’ve learned from their classes, meetings, conversations, events, hangout, etc. I wouldn’t be in the place that I am today. Each and every person I’ve came in contact with wishes me nothing but success, and was there for me when I needed a pick-me-up and some motivation to keep on moving forward. I personally want to give a shout-out to Michael Johnson and Stephen Cirino for being my mentors and professors that ALWAYS believed in me and my success. There’s countless amount of times where they believed in me when I personally didn’t believe in me, and for that reason, I seriously couldn’t thank them enough.
