We had the good fortune of connecting with Sara LaTorre & Lindsay Viducic and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sara LaTorre & Lindsay Viducic, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
As elementary educators and busy moms, we recognized a gap in the available reading materials for early learners. Our own children were just starting to read, and we found that many books on the market were either phonetically decodable but lacked engagement or fun, or they were exciting but filled with words that were too difficult for beginners. This frustration sparked the idea for The Adventures of Bot. We wanted to create a series that combined both fun and educational value, helping young readers build confidence while sparking a love for reading.

We knew there was a need for this series when other moms shared similar frustrations about figuring out where to begin with reading at home. Our thought process was rooted in our experiences in the classroom and at home. We knew how important it was to offer books that were not only decodable but also engaging enough to keep kids interested. By designing The Adventures of Bot, we were able to provide an interactive, decodable reader series that would meet the needs of early readers while also making the learning process enjoyable.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Our book series, The Adventures of Bot, is all about making early literacy enjoyable and accessible for young readers. What sets us apart is our unique blend of interactive, decodable stories paired with simple, fun illustrations that engage both kids and adults. As educators and moms, we saw firsthand how challenging it can be to find books that are both phonetically decodable and fun. Many early readers either focus on sounding out words without much excitement or introduce too many challenging words too soon. We created The Adventures of Bot to fill that gap—offering a series that supports beginning readers while sparking their curiosity and love of reading.

Additionally, this interactive beginner reader series provides a wonderful opportunity for parents and children to connect. Parents read aloud to their child and then have the chance to listen as their child practices their beginning reading skills. This interaction strengthens the bond between parent and child while fostering a love of learning together.

We’re incredibly proud of how far we’ve come, especially since this is our first book series. Seeing the positive feedback from parents, teachers, and children who love the books has been a huge motivator. We’re excited about the impact we’re making in the lives of young readers—helping them build confidence, enjoy reading, and succeed in their literacy journey.

Getting to where we are today has been incredibly rewarding. The process has been full of learning curves, but we persevere by staying focused on our mission: to make reading fun, engaging, and achievable for kids. We leaned on our experience as educators and parents and collaborated with others in the field to fine-tune our approach. One of the biggest lessons we’ve learned is the power of persistence and staying true to our vision, even when things get tough.

Through this journey, we’ve learned that flexibility and listening to feedback are key. We’ve also realized that while it’s easy to get caught up in the details, what truly matters is creating a product that makes a difference. We are proud of the relationships we’ve built with families, teachers, and fellow creators who have supported our mission.

What we want the world to know about us is that we are passionate about early literacy and committed to making a difference in children’s reading journeys. Our brand represents a love of learning, a dedication to high-quality education, and a desire to bring joy to every child’s reading experience. Our story is one of collaboration, determination, and the belief that every child deserves the tools to succeed in reading while having fun along the way.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Lindsay: I’d start with an early walk at Cabrillo Beach, followed by coffee at Sirens, where I always meet friendly people. Then, a hike on Dave’s Trail in PV for great views. I’d stroll through Riviera Village in South Redondo and people-watch. For dinner, I’d splurge at Compagnon in San Pedro, a French-owned gem. With kids, I’d take them to Sky Zone Trampoline Park and the Cabrillo Aquarium.

Sara: We’d bike the Strand from Redondo to MB, grab coffee, and then head to Hermosa for brunch at Martha’s. Afterward, we’d lounge on the 22nd St. beach, where the kids can play and enjoy the swing set. For dinner, we’d dine outside at Bottle Inn in Hermosa.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We would love to dedicate our shoutout to our families and our amazing support system. We’ve been incredibly fortunate to have the encouragement and love of our loved ones every step of the way. A special shoutout goes to our own kids—Sara’s daughter Lena and Lindsay’s son Jack—who inspired “The Adventures of Bot”. Their curiosity and enthusiasm for learning motivated us to create a resource that would make their reading journey more fun and engaging.

Additionally, we’d like to thank the educators and fellow parents who shared their insights and struggles with us. Their feedback and support have been invaluable in shaping the series. We are especially grateful to the parents who tested the series for us. Hearing that reading with their child was finally accessible and enjoyable motivated us to get the series out there. And, of course, our own teaching experiences—both in the classroom and at home—have been our guiding force.

We’re truly grateful for the community that has helped us bring this vision to life and continues supporting us in our mission to make reading a joyful experience for every child.
