Meet Sarah Lewis | Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Lewis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sarah, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I am definitely a big risktaker and put myself in situations that force me to think and grow within my business. I attend conferences where I don’t know anyone, sign up for shows that I’m nervous to attend, say yes to big projects, and make connections with big industry leaders. If you’re not taking yourself out of your comfort zone then you’re not growing!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I went to college for fashion design and I definitely think that gives me a different approach to my work and art. Since I started my business in 2018 I’ve started to shift more towards all things weddings, and weddings are all about colors and textures. I take what I learned in school and what I learned in my first corporate design job and integrate it into my designs. I think outside of the box and create something unique for my clients.
This was definitely not the easiest of journeys – it was a lot of all nighters, questioning what I was doing, wondering if I was cut out for entrepreneurship, crying over mistakes made, and so much more. But, I always knew deep in my heart I was meant to work for myself and to keep pushing through. If every day was a walk in the park then things would get boring! If you really dig deep, you’ll realize that every part of your business (good and bad) goes through phases and you will get through it. You just have to have the confidence that you will make it work.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love to travel, and anything by the water is my favorite! Checking out the Inner Harbor is always key, then checking out an Orioles game while eating a crab cake is a must. I recently discovered Sofar Sounds, which is like a speakeasy for live music. This way you can also support some extremely talented musicians. Finally, getting a fun cocktail at Blue Bird Cocktail Room because they’re the absolute best. If you have the time, going to DC to checkout the museums is an incredible experience. There is so much to be inspired by!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would not be where I am without the incredible support of my friends and family. They believed in me from the very first second and have always been in my corner. From the very beginning they posted my work on their social medias, attended my shows, purchased my work, and so much more. Not every creative has that kind of unrelenting support and I don’t take it for granted.
