We had the good fortune of connecting with Sari Eitches, MD and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sari, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
I never set out to start a supplement company but was constantly disappointed in the vitamins and supplements available. It seemed like some supplements were clinically sound and evidence-based, and others had great marketing and branding, but very few had both. Vitamins, minerals and botanicals should be formulated and recommended with the same level of evidence as medications. This means that not only are the ingredients important, so is their active form, their dosing and their combination.
For example, iron is best absorbed when taken with Vitamin C in a 1:10 ratio, and worst absorbed when taken with other minerals such as magnesium and calcium.
I counsel patients on supplement dosing and combining every day and was moved to make truly effective and evidence-based options more widely available.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
By training, I am an MD with board certifications in internal medicine and integrative holistic medicine. My first business is my private practice. After working for a university based medical center, I felt like I might burn out. There was so much red tape and so little time I could spend with each patient. I started my own clinic so that I could practice medicine in the way that I feel is best for my patients and with the most integrity and independence for me. I never set out to start a supplement company but was constantly disappointed in the vitamins and supplements available. As an integrative doc, I am just as comfortable prescribing prescription medications as I am supplements.
For years I recognized that certain supplements are most effective, and most needed, at certain points of the menstrual cycle. For example, the majority of menstruating women have sub-optimal iron levels. These can cause symptoms such as fatigue and brain fog. But this rarely shows up on standard labs since it is not usually enough to cause anemia. So for years I recommended menstruating women to take iron only on the days of their period, when they were losing iron. Taking iron all month can cause unwanted side effects, Likewise, other supplements had great evidence for specific, cyclic dosing such as Vitex around ovulation and B6 and Ginkgo for PMS. The problem was that the onus was on my patients to juggle 8 different supplements and track their periods to properly time and combine them.
In early 2019, I went to a beautiful sound bath and had a vision: it was a supplement pack numbered 1-30 with different formulations specifically designed for each phase of the cycle. So all you have to do is start a new pack on the first day of your period, and you are getting exactly what you need, when you need it. I went to work poring over hundreds of clinical studies and developed the unique Lunar Sync formulations for each phase, then I tested them in a trial of 60 women over 90 days and was so blown away by the results that patented it and made it available for everyone.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love to show visitors the natural beauty of Los Angeles, the diverse culture, and delicious food. I love to start the day with a hike- my favorites are Runyon Canyon, Tree People, Will Rogers or Topanga Canyon. Live music is always a good idea and since we have such great weather year round, I love our outdoor venues such as the Greek Theater or Hollywood Bowl. Depending on the season I love to take people to a local farmers market, art fair, or outdoor jazz at LACMA. As a vegan, there are so many amazing plant-forward restaurants to share. My long time favorite is Inn of the Seventh Ray and my newest go-to is Ubuntu. Some guests are super interested in spotting celebrities- I would take them to Craig’s for dinner and the best chance of a sighting. For cocktails I recommend the Roger Room or Dante’s. For shopping, Rodeo Drive might be the conventional choice but I prefer Melrose Avenue for its mix of vintage shops, quirky restaurants and sneaker culture. It’s also the perfect place to get the ultimate souvenir: a new piercing from Brian Keith Thompson at Body Electric- a true artist and LA icon.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I owe thanks to all my patients who have entrusted me with their health over the years. The greatest value I can offer my patients and my customers is the collaboration and translation of my training and expertise with their lived experience and feedback. It was my patients who first introduced me to the biohacking concept of Cycle-Syncing years ago- which ultimately was the inspiration for Lunar Sync- the first supplement with a unique formula for each phase of the menstrual cycle.
