Meet Scarlett Taylor | Singer, Songwriter, Recording Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Scarlett Taylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Scarlett, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
For me, starting my own business and building Scarlett Taylor was about taking full creative control of my vision. I wanted to create something that felt authentic and deeply personal without having to compromise on my art or my message. It wasn’t just about making music; it was about crafting an entire world. My producer and I have worked very meticulously to create the world of Scarlett Taylor through his independent label, Borderline Musick. We’ve collaborated on most every aspect – from the music videos and photos to the actual music. Scarlett Taylor is not only who I am, but also an entire concept and story.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is deeply personal, and I think that’s what sets it apart. Everything I create—whether it’s a song, a visual concept, or even a playlist—comes from a very raw and honest place. I strive to build an entire world for listeners to step into, one that’s haunting, cinematic, and emotionally charged.
What I’m most proud of is staying true to myself and my vision. I’ve also managed to stay true to my life-long sobriety in a place that doesn’t always support it. It’s not always easy to carve out your own lane in an industry that often values trends over individuality, but I’ve learned that authenticity resonates the most. I’m proud of the fact that I do music that I WANT to do, rather than making a pop or up-tempo song just because “people will like it more.” If I was trying to please everyone, Scarlett Taylor simply wouldn’t exist.
Getting to where I am today hasn’t been easy. I started out in Minneapolis, performing in local venues and bars, and I’ve had to hustle every step of the way—leaving my family and hometown and moving to Los Angeles, building a fan base from scratch, and learning to manage the highs and lows of being an independent artist. You have to constantly be grinding, creating content, and putting your name out there, every single day. There aren’t days off in this business.
Along the way, I’ve learned the importance of patience, resilience, and surrounding yourself with people who truly understand and uplift you. I’ve learned everyone might not like your music or what you’re creating. You can’t care. You have to continue making your art. I’ve also realized that success isn’t just about numbers or recognition—it’s about creating art that matters to you and the people it touches.
What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that Scarlett Taylor isn’t just a name—it’s an entire concept and story. It’s about embracing contradictions, finding beauty in darkness, and creating a space where vulnerability is strength. Real and raw is beautiful.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, I would have to show them a ton! Los Angeles is such a fun city with so many things to do, people to meet, and places to see. First, I would have to show them all the cool venues and places I’ve performed. We’d go to Whisky-A-Go-Go, Rainbow Bar and Grill, and The Mint to name a few. I would show them The Getty Center and we’d take a hike up to the Griffith. Naturally, I would have to show them the Santa Monica Pier and drive down the PCH to stop at one of my favorite spots near Malibu – Nicolas Eatery. I also love Topanga, so I would bring them through there and stop at some of the cute shops and markets, including Cafe on 27. We also can’t forget the Old LA Zoo!! Lastly, I would love to show them the Descanso Gardens and/or the Exposition Park Rose Gardens.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Absolutely! I have a few. I wouldn’t be where I am today without the incredible people who’ve supported and believed in me along the way. First and foremost, I have to give massive credit to my producer, Disraeli. We’ve worked together for over ten years and I can’t imagine creating Scarlett Taylor with anyone else. His immense musical talent and ability to help bring my vision to life is truly unmatched.
I also want to thank my family for supporting my decision to leave everything I ever knew and move across the country to LA to pursue my dream. My grandma, especially, always has my back and wants nothing but success for me. She’s constantly promoting me and my music everywhere she goes.
Lastly, my fans deserve so much recognition. Their love and connection to my music keep me going and remind me why I pour so much of myself into every project. It’s really a collective effort, and I’m beyond grateful for everyone who’s been part of this journey.
