Meet Scott Conner | Artist and fabricator.

We had the good fortune of connecting with Scott Conner and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Scott, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My work by nature is mainly freelance, so I figured I had better make it a business. Id rather work 80 hrs a week for myself than 40 hrs a week for someone else.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As any professional artist will tell you its never easy, but it gets easier as time goes on. I learned to check my ego and listen, to the folks who have been there. Many artists want to think they are reinventing the wheel, I know I did, but when I started to really pay attention to the opportunities to learn that I was being given, that’s when my art started to improve in meaningful ways. While I am very proud of my career in film and television, it would be my Disney sculpture work I’m most proud of, its really something I never thought I would get the chance to do let alone be successful doing. I will also be announcing another chapter in my Disney art this fall under my pseudonym “Skully”.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Funny you should ask as my visitor just left to return home and I played tour guide all week. We visited Andy Warhol’s grave, but sadly didn’t make it over to the Warhol museum. The strip district was fun, its the warehouse district there are lots of shops restaurants and markets. Had to go to Primanti Bros. a deli-restaurant, google it, very unique sandwiches. Of course we stopped by Mt. Washington to see the amazing view of the city. Kennywood one of Americas last surviving trolley parks is a fun old stye amusement park that’s over 100 years old. The Heinz history museum was also really fun and informative since this city was once the furthest point west anyone had ever settled. Really the great thing about the Pittsburgh area is that you cant see or experience it all in one week.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
1st and foremost, my parents. They have always supported my dreams and goals and never told me to “get a real job” , Their love and support was integral to any success I have achieved. There are so many inspirations and folks who have given me opportunities both in LA and now in Pittsburgh, but the two I would like to shoutout is Steve Tolin of Tolin FX and Keith Lewis of Theater Room Creations. Both have helped me grow as an artist in ways I never would have imagined and given me opportunities I could never dream of. Steve in the entertainment industry and Keith with Disney fine art. I am truly grateful to be able to do this work especially in my hometown.
