We had the good fortune of connecting with Scott Seagren and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Scott, why did you pursue a creative career?
I have pursued an artistic/creative career because its the one way I know I can express myself and my creative endeavors/intentions the clearest. I also do believe as cliche as it sounds that art has the ability to influence and change the world for the better, For me creativity is the essence of life and living without it feels hollow and disingenuous to the beauty available to us when we really pay attention. I am never more alive than when I’m working at creating something in one creative fashion or another and this career path, while not always easy, is the only one that makes sense.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I think part of what perhaps sets me apart (at least in my personal and obviously biased opinion) is that at the end of the day in all the things I do, whether it’s sci-fi, comedy, horror, drama, etc, it’s all about weaving and telling a captivating story while also creating an emotionally engaging experience that helps people achieve that little escape we all need. Stories give us hope and life and crafting a good one is a great challenge.

In terms of current projects, with a creative partner of mine (Patrick Adam Peña) we’re running some local market test screenings for the proof of concept of an Indie Horror film we’ve co-written and shot summer 2023 that has been quietly making the rounds to film producers and studios to be produced. I’ve optioned and sold a couple of feature film scripts that fingers crossed will get made in the next couple of years, and am otherwise a part of a few upcoming projects that I think will make quite the splash when they’re ready for public consumption.

In terms of the challenges faced on this road and in this industry, I would say one of the greatest challenges to me is in our industry it’s a hugely saturated field in terms of ideas and talent, but also simultaneously a lack of imagination especially when it comes to the big picture folks and studio people. There are lots of people out there attempting to tell an interesting story or fighting for their moment to highlight something they’re passionate about but we’re all of us having to fight against the old studio system where all they seem to want to do anymore is churn out remakes or rehashes of movies we’ve seen a million times. It seems like the big folks have forgotten what it means to struggle or truly be invested in the creativity of their art as opposed to the bottom line.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I wish I got around more honestly so this is a short list, but some of my favorite places in the los angeles area include in no particular order: Most of the La Bike Paths, Eaton Canyon Falls, The Waffle, Sunset Rooftop, The Eastwood PAC, Any Movie Theater, The Santa Monica Pier, and Griffith Observatory.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I send a shoutout to all the people who have ever supported my creative exploits over the many years I’ve spent cultivating them. The PlanetBravo crew including Danny Pezzotta, Tina Yangello, Manuel Reynolds and the entirety of the PB Staff/Manhattan Beach Camp crew. My collaborators in first name alphabetical order Austin Bosley, Austin Smagalski, Bryarly Bishop, Chaya Suppanarat, Connie Jo Sechrist, Darnell Murphy, Evan Morton, Jeff Bosley, Katie Oliver, Mike Hendricks, Omar Salas Zamora, Patrick Adam Peña, Ricardo Garcia, Ryan Joseph, Shawn Kelley, and Steph Savíc.
