We had the good fortune of connecting with Scott Strickland and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Scott, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I was born in Hawaii but raised in Maryland. My father was a career military man in the Air Force. He was also a drill instructor while in the military which explains most things in how I was raised. My father instilled discipline and a competitive nature in my brother and I while my mother instilled more of a compassionate nature as well. I like to think it balanced well. I grew up playing sports every year and eventually I wanted to join the military like my father. I joined the Marine Corps as a Rifleman and did two deployments in Afghanistan. I have a more old fashioned mentality when it comes to life. I try to live honorably and I take pride in my masculinity.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am the owner of Slayer Strength Personal Training. I have over 13 years of fitness experience which all started in the United States Marine Corps. My main focus is helping people build muscle and strength. My training philosophy is that we need to push past our limits if we want to achieve true strength. I whole heartedly believe in the saying, “no pain, no gain”. Our bodies are capable of more that what our minds tell us. I am most proud when I am able to bring in clients and make them feel a sense of surprise after a couple weeks of training. When they are able to lift more, run faster or work out longer than they expected. It was not easy getting to where I am today. I’ve dealt with a lot of obstacles. Coming out here with nothing, dealing with mental health issues from the military and sometimes just being unmotivated to pursue my goals. Everything takes time but no matter what we deal with if we force ourselves to crawl one inch, the next inch gets easier and easier and easier. My brand is based off of my story. I am here to help you become stronger mentally and physically and motivate you along the way, no matter what you’re dealing with in and out of the gym.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m going to be honest with this one. We are both gamers so the first thing we’re going to do is head home and game for most of the day. Monday evening we’re going to head to MacLeod’s alehouse in Burbank. I play D&D there on Wednesday’s and the vibe is amazing. Great beer and games there. Tuesday we’d head to Santa Monica and hit up the beach. great food on the pier and the scenery is beautiful. Wednesday we’d go to Mo’s House of Axe for some axe throwing (the owner gave me a shirt for my birthday). That place is a really good time. We’d then go hiking in Malibu. There are some BEAUTIFUL hiking trails there. Over the weekend we’d hit up Hypergate VR in Santa Monica. Did I mention we’re gamers? That place is amazing and I’m sure we’d go there more than once on his visit.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate this shoutout to Chancelle Mafoua. She is my manager, publicist and most of all, friend. When I first moved to California she did everything in her power to help me get on my feet. She kept me motivated and encouraged me every step of the way. I probably wouldn’t have even pursued my career if it wasn’t for her. She’s an amazing human being and deserves all the credit.
