Meet Sean Gallagher: Actor/Writer/Stunts

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sean Gallagher and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sean, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
“But I tried, didn’t I, goddamit. At least I did that.” – R.P. McMurphy from One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.

It’s a great a scene about life. R.P says he’s going to pickup this giant fountain in the washroom, throw it through the window, and go downtown to watch the game. Everyone bet’s against him because it’s too heavy. He tries and tries. Everyone watches with extreme curiosity. He fails. And then he says, “But I tried, didn’t I, goddamit. At least I did that.”

I love the person trying to do something. The dreamer. The person taking action. I want to be the person trying to lift the fountain instead of sitting around watching taking bets against someone. And if I fail…at least I tried.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Intrinsically, I bring a blue collar work ethic to an artistic mindset. Coming from an area where art isn’t as celebrated I’ve had to navigate, fail, and find my own path through the journey of becoming an actor. There wasn’t anyone who knew what to do, how to do it, where to go, or even who to meet at first.

So while I read every book, took the classes, and honed my craft in the theater. I’ve also had to move to the right cities at the right time, support myself while pursuing acting jobs, and make friends with people who have similar mindsets.

And do all of that with grace. Keeping my morals, being honest, kind, respectful, and simply doing the work. During the challenges you can lose yourself and you must stay grounded and stay true to yourself. You can be good at what you do and be nice!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Being from Philly, I take everyone to the beach! Venice has such an interesting and rich history. From bands like The Doors to Arnold and all the bodybuilders roaming the same streets. The canals are so random that I have to show everyone.

Hike, Hike, and more hikes. Everyone wants to take advantage of the weather and scenery. Whether it’s Runyon Canyon, Griffith Park, or getting lost in Malibu – it’s a great time.

Then taking a trip up the PCH to Malibu and simply checking out the homes in that area. Grabbing a drink by the water. You can’t beat watching the sunset over the water.

Ending any night with whiskey and cigar at State Social House is a nice nightcap.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Family. My father, My sister Tina, Jackie, and my girl Piaget. Their unwavering support allow me to jump and incase I fall they will catch me.
