We had the good fortune of connecting with Sean James and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sean, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
As a hairstylist colorist, I believe my work significantly helps the community and the world in several ways. One of the most rewarding aspects of my job is creating looks that help celebrities feel confident in their personal appearance. When they step into the spotlight, I love knowing that my artistry plays a part in their self-esteem and how they present themselves to the world.
Additionally, I contribute to character development in film, television, and theater. I’m so excited about the upcoming film, Freaky Friday which I got to cut and create the look for JaimIe Lee Curtis’s character also her upcoming TV series with Nicole Kidman for her role in Scarpetta,The right hair color and style are crucial for conveying a character’s personality and journey, and I take pride in helping bring those stories to life. My work enriches the storytelling experience, allowing audiences to connect more deeply with the characters.
As an industry leader, I have worked and been an advisor and educator for many brands, including Phyto ,Redken ,Giovanni cosmetics, K18 ,NEQI hair , I have so many ideas for new products I’m just waiting for the perfect collaboration with the right brand
On a community level, MY WEEKLY CLIENTS ARE MY SUPERSTARS There is nothing like coming home to my regular clients in the salon and doing house calls, I strive to create a welcoming and supportive environment for my clients. Building relationships and listening to their stories is incredibly fulfilling. I also participate in local events and charity initiatives, which helps uplift the community and promotes self-expression through beauty. Ultimately, through my craft, I not only enhance individual appearances but also empower others and contribute to a more confident and connected community.
I am active in the community and talk with community leaders like the Mayor Of Santa Monica Lana Negrete and the mayor of Los Angeles’s office’s James Ingram on a weekly basis trying to build safer better community in this time of chaos.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a celebrity hairstylist and makeup artist, my art is all about enhancing individuality and bringing out the unique beauty in every client. What sets me apart is my ability to blend creativity with technical skill, ensuring that each look not only complements the person’s features but also aligns with their vision and personality. I’m passionate about collaborating with my clients to create transformative experiences that leave them feeling empowered and confident.
Currently, I’m working on NBC’s “the wall “ with host Chris Hardwick I create looks for Michelle Valles a news anchor on NBC LA and Hailey Winslow on Fox 11 and have worked with everybody from Kim Kardashian, Paris Hilton, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Jaime Presley Allison, Janney and many more
I’m most proud of the relationships I’ve built over the years with some incredible artists in the industry. Seeing my work on red carpets and in major productions is exhilarating, but what truly excites me is the opportunity to help clients express themselves authentically. I’ve had the privilege of working with celebrities to craft looks that resonate with their characters and personal brands, which is both a challenge and a joy.
I’m also proud of the mentorship that I have given young Stylists and taught and trained them to become also industry leaders I love seeing their success and their growth.
My journey hasn’t been easy. I arrived here from Australia with nothing except for my four years of hairdressing certificate $500 my bike and my boogie board.I started from humble beginnings, and it took years of hard work, dedication, and perseverance to establish myself in this competitive field. There were moments of self-doubt and setbacks, but I overcame those challenges by staying focused on my passion and continuously honing my skills. I sought mentorship from industry leaders, attended workshops, and never hesitated to learn from my experiences in this ever-changing industry, it’s important to understand and relearn and reeducate—
Along the way, I’ve learned the importance of adaptability and resilience. The beauty industry is always evolving, and being open to change has allowed me to stay relevant and innovative. I also believe in the power of community; supporting fellow artists and uplifting each other is essential for growth. I love working with teams of people I put together many teams for a fashion shows for New York Paris, Fashion weeks. And many events around town this weekend. I am donating my time to “LAid” a fire relief benefit concert starring “Weird Al” Yankovic Rufus Wainwright and many others
What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that I’m dedicated to celebrating diversity and individuality. My mission is to empower people through beauty, helping them feel their best, whether they’re stepping onto a stage or simply going about their day. My story is one of passion, creativity, and a commitment to making every person I work with feel like a star in their own right.
