Meet Sean Murphy | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sean Murphy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sean, what role has risk played in your life or career?
In the beginning…
I was a terrible student and floundered a lot until about the age of twenty. A photography class at a community college in Orlando was my first introduction to the craft. The professor advised me to move away and try and go to school in Boston or NYC. I packed up all my stuff and moved to Boston without a plan other than I was going to try and get into a school there.
There was no plan B for me. I was going to be a professional photographer no matter what and failing was not an option. I would do whatever it took.
My story is long with many twists and turns. I did get into the New England School of Photography. Graduated top of my class and continued my path to the top.
I feel like if I had other options it would have given me an out. The pressure of having nothing to fall back on was a great motivator.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a photographer to the core…
My story is a long weird one. I started in the music, celebrity, and fashion world in San Francisco and Los Angeles. After several years I broke into the advertising and outdoor space. Somehow I made them all work and seems to have set me apart.
During my thirty-year career, I have been bankrupt, drug-addicted, and married a couple of times. It took time to overcome my downfalls but I have been back stronger than ever and my life is amazing.
I continue to learn, grow, and expand my business.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We now live in the Florida Panhandle near Destin and Pensacola.
I would no doubt focus our week around the crystal-clear Gulf of Mexico. Amazing nightlife, fishing, paddleboarding, and a trip to one of the many springs near by.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Without a doubt, I owe my photography career to my community college professor “Robert Eginton”
Without his push to leave Florida and building my confidence I can not imagine how my life would have turned out.
Sadly I missed thanking him before he passed away.
I think of him all the time.
