Meet Sebastian Lorenz | Musician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sebastian Lorenz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sebastian, alright, let’s jump in with a deep one – what’s you’re definition for success?
Tough question, since it’s different for each and everyone of us. There’s certain standards in specific groups of people or societies that may define success, but in my mind in order to be truly successful one has to ignore those standards. Yes, you need to establish a stable financial situation, but that’s not an indicator of success to me, neither is fame or power. If you get real lucky everything goes hand in hand, but I know amazing people that aren’t successful by many people’s standards. Of course there are less materialistic indicators, such as reputation, work load, recognition…For me personally as long as I wake up looking forward to the day ahead of me, being proud of what I’m doing and willing to learn and dive deeper every day, I am successful.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I was very lucky to be surrounded with music from a very early age on. I was also very lucky to have grown up in a very supportive environment. I am nowhere near where I want to be, but through daily work and dedication I am hoping to get closer every day. I was in the fortunate position to connect with many amazing artists throughout my life and through their guidance I learned a ton. One of the most important lessons was to never loose the will to explore and learn as much as you can and to always strive for improvement. Abandon rules when necessary and remember that all of these things are very personal, varying from individual to individual. By having the chance of taking jobs that require new skills I try to keep improving and progressing all the time, hoping that that will lead to new connections and keeping me busy.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
As mentioned earlier I was very lucky to have been surrounded by very supportive family, friends and mentors. Of course my family played a big part in the very early stages and to this very day, also many of the teachers and mentors I’ve studied with, moving on to all the amazing people I have had the pleasure of working with and learning from over the years. Lastly, all the artists that have inspired me, whose body of work builds the foundation of the music industry as we know it today.
