We had the good fortune of connecting with Sergio Sanchez Selva and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sergio, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
After a couple of years working for an Architecture Firm in Dublin I decided that I wanted to shift my career to the Film Industry, where each project represents a different creative challenge.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The aspect I enjoy most about my job is the opportunity to create spaces that drive the narrative forward, and the fact that each project is unique allows for this. These spaces do not necessarily need to be anchored in the physical world or within the limitations of a particular era, as long as they serve the purpose of the story being told. As an architect, my training helps me understand the functionality of the spaces and how they will be used by the characters in the story, creating circumstances that make sense for the actors.
In the last few years I have had the opportunity to work on various TV shows such as And Just Like That and Wu-Tang: An American Saga, which presented a great challenge in creating unique New York environments.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I strongly believe that pursuing an artistic career is difficult without the support and encouragement of our colleagues. Hence, I am profoundly grateful for the support I receive from those around me and for the experts and professionals who generously share their knowledge with me.
