We had the good fortune of connecting with Sesha Loop and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sesha, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my business was to create a company where I could do what I love as well as create a lifestyle where I could work from anywhere in the world. I had worked in retouching studios for a few years and I knew from those experiences that I did not want to be an employee to someone or a company. I wanted to be my own boss and make my own hours. As my company has grown I have still been able to create a schedule and lifestyle that works for me and allows me the freedom I want in life.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The story of how I started my company is one that starts with a failure. I started retouching in a studio in New York, I was there for little less than a year when I was fired. I wasn’t ready for the fast pace at which the company was growing and while at the time I was pretty heartbroken it turned out to be what spurred me to go freelance and eventually having my own retouching company. After a few days of feeling a little lost I made a promise to myself that this was what I loved to do and I would make it happen no matter what. So I pulled myself together and started taking freelance jobs where ever I could and learning as much as I could. While that first year being freelance was anything but easy, it was the biggest learning experience.
After about 2 years of freelancing at different studios I created my company Bahawk Retouching Studio. It was slow going at first and took a couple years to even build a small client list. What really established me was getting one big account and that’s really what you need to be able to sustain and grow a company. A client that believes in you and comes back over and over again.
That one big clients allowed me to expand and start hiring freelancers to come in and grow the brand. I am so proud of the dedication I put in to keeping that client and turning it into more clients. It really taught me how to be a manager and how to get the most out of your employees, while treating them fairly and compensating them fairly.
I would like the world to know how dedicated we are to putting out the best work and to creating life long clients through that dedication. No matter the client or the budget I always want the work to be the calling card that keeps clients coming back and attracts new ones.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting the itinerary would be as follows: 1. Taking a ride to Topanga Canyon to eat breakfast at Cafe on 27, their food is excellent. They took what as originally called Pats Topanga Grill a longtime local spot and revamped it but managed to keep the charm and local vibe. WELL DONE:)
2.After breakfast we would head up the canyon a little further and stop off at Hidden Treasures a vintage store that has been there since the late 70’s.
3. where to have a drink, Tiki-Ti (Hollywood) Dan Tanas (West Hollywood) Big Foot Lodge (Los Feliz)
4. where to eat dinner, My all time favorite and go to for dinner is Dan Tana’s, its Hollyweird at its finest. Full of locals and history.
5. Elysian Park for a daytime hang and hike
6. The Broad for some art
7. I also would probably take them to ride with me on some trails (horses)
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my Shoutout to my community of photographers and creatives, without them I wouldn’t love what I do as getting to work with people who are like minded and take pride in their careers really pushes one to keep doing them same. Some individuals who have been most instramental are Caydie McCumber (Photographer) are work relationship has been very inspiring. Being able to work together on projects has been seamless and also being able to bounce ideas off each other is always valuable. Her photography and her drive makes me work harder. Tomer DeVito (Owner at NATIVE CONTENT, production company) Being able to learn from this man on how he has created an extremely successful business has been an endless well of knowledge. From how to interact with clients of all levels to how to create an environment where your employees thrive. He’s also helped me learn some hard lessons that in the moment seemed insurmountable but turned into some of the most valuable pieces of growning my business.
