Meet Shakira Reedus

Today we’re excited to be connecting with Shakira Reedus again. If you haven’t already, we suggest you check out our prior conversation with them here.
Shakira, we are so thrilled to be connecting again and can’t wait to hear about all the amazing things you have been up to. Before we jump into all of that, some of our readers might have missed our prior interview, so can you take a moment to reintroduce yourself?
Allow me to reintroduce myself – I’m SHAKIRA, SHAKIRA *cues music*, but I’m best known as the Actresspreneur! I create opportunities for myself and others through creative avenues and business ventures. My journey began with acting, which opened up countless paths of discovery, not just within myself, but also in others and the world around me. In 2015, I began creating content as a way to transition smoothly from theater to on-screen acting. Along the way, I discovered my strong production skills, which not only opened doors behind the scenes but also gave me insight into the business side of the entertainment industry. Since then, I’ve been breaking barriers in both entertainment and business, driven by love, confidence, fearlessness, and an unapologetic attitude. As an actress and content creator, I’ve had the opportunity to live in and travel to various places, absorbing, sharing, and reinterpreting countless stories!

Great, so let’s jump into an update on what you have been up to since we last spoke. What can you share with us?
When we first met, I had just moved to LA and was diving headfirst into my wild actresspreneur journey. It was during that time that I really started learning about myself, especially through the experience of being on my own. My first week in LA, I actually booked a job with Steve Harvey and ended up living in this super creative house/artistic hostel with 30 other people. It was a bit of a whirlwind, and life has only gotten crazier since – both the highs and the lows. Since then, I’ve landed leading roles in feature films, worked with incredible celebrities and big content creators across the country, won film festival awards for my self-made web series, and met and lost some amazing people along the way. My experiences and growth has been unreal!
When the pandemic and strike hit, the entertainment industry took a huge blow, forcing many performers to either quit or go independent. While it was tough for some, it actually became a blessing for me, giving me the time and space to really focus on pouring back into myself and embracing my independence. Now, as I look back on how far I’ve come (with plenty more to go), I’m really excited to create my own big production movie and explore opportunities in international markets!

Life is often about tough choices – can you talk to us about your thought process, strategy or philosophy when it comes to making difficult choices or tradeoffs.
You’re perfect because you’re human. There is no real “normal”. Be yourself unapologetically, it gets you further in life.
Don’t be scared to do the thing you’re thinking about because it came to your first mind for that reason. Life is like a big test that you will pass and fail – over and over again. Humans go through many cycles, and sometimes recycles. Life can be uncomfortable and unpredictable so loosen up and release control. What’s for you won’t pass you up, just be patient. Take your time.
F*ck societal standards! Everybody is making it up as they go, but you’re here right now. Do you want to also be here in 2 weeks, 1 month, or 5 years? It’s a yes or no question, and no one is judging you. People can only really judge themselves and talk about you, so let em talk! People change their minds, OFTEN.
Find your peace and fight for it. Move in love. Be humble, but have a big ego. You can have both!
But most importantly, everything and everybody can’t go with you to the top. Let it go. You will be lonely a lot of the time, so learn to love yourself every step of the way.
I have anxiety, but I do a lot of yoga. Move your body before anything else and it’ll work wonders.
These are some of my scattered thoughts and philosophies that help me get through life’s tough times.
