Hi Shantell, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
The most important lesson that my business/career has taught me is that it’s okay to start over, reinvent yourself, and change careers as many times as needed until you’re happy with the life you’ve created. This lesson was particularly challenging for me to learn because I struggled with accepting change. However, as I embarked on my entrepreneurial journey, I quickly realized that embracing change was crucial to my success. I learned that being open to new opportunities, taking risks, and not being afraid to fail were all necessary for growth and progress. By accepting change, I was able to pivot and shift my focus, leading me to Bougie Society and helping others in the beauty industry achieve their goals.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m the founder of Bougie Ambition, and I’m thrilled to share my story with you. Bougie Ambition is a hair extension company that’s dedicated to providing high-quality textured bundles, clip-ins, and tape-ins that are carefully crafted to match the natural hair of our clients, from 2A to 4C. I believe that every individual deserves to feel beautiful, confident, and empowered in their own skin, and I strive to make that a reality through our products.

While building our brand, I realized that many new beauty professionals struggle to break through the world of entrepreneurship, and that’s why I decided to create Bougie Society. Bougie Society will be a brand new division of Bougie Ambition, a monthly membership program designed specifically for beauty professionals who are looking to take their businesses to the next level. Although building Bougie Society has been a challenging journey, it has also been incredibly rewarding. I’ve been able to create a unique platform that meets the needs of hair professionals. Along the way, I’ve learned that it’s important to stay focused and believe in myself, even when faced with challenges. I want the world to know that Bougie Society is more than just a membership; it’s a community that’s dedicated to helping hair professionals succeed and thrive in their careers.

Our journey hasn’t been easy, but it has been rewarding. I’m proud of the success I’ve achieved so far, no matter the size, and I’m excited about the future launch of Bougie Society. My company’s mission is to empower beauty professionals and help them build successful businesses. I want the world to know that we’re more than just a hair extension company. We’re a community of beauty professionals dedicated to helping each other succeed. Our story is one of growth, resilience, and determination, and I’m excited to continue this journey with Bougie Society.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting Southern California for a week, I’d make sure she had the most amazing time. As someone who has recently moved to California, I am still getting to know the area. Since my girl is all about content creation, I’m thinking we’ll hit up some of the most popular locations for photos and videos. When it comes to food, I like to stick to what I know, but I would definitely take my friend to The Waffle for brunch. We would also make time for some shopping, checking out some of the popular malls in the area. In the evenings, we could explore some of the local bars and enjoy a few drinks together. Overall, I would make sure that my friend had a great time and got to experience the best that Southern California has to offer.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Absolutely! In terms of my husband, I have to give credit where credit is due. Even when I gave him hell, he supported me in every possible way. He has been my rock through thick and thin, always pushing me to be the best version of myself and cheering me on every step of the way. I can’t thank him enough for his unwavering love, patience, and support. I am grateful for the sacrifices he has made to support me and our family, and I know that without him, I wouldn’t be where I am today.

And as for my father, he has been instrumental in my journey as an entrepreneur, providing me with financial, emotional, and guidance support when I needed it most. Although I know I still would have been successful without him, he has made it a little easier for me to pursue my dreams and reach my goals. I am forever grateful for both of these incredible men in my life.
