Meet Sharōn Ronen | Licensed Esthetician, Certified Holistic Nutritionist, Certified Yoga Teacher

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sharōn Ronen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sharōn, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business is that I went on a few interviews and at each place, I was not excited about the curb appeal or the esthetic of the space or the product line(s) they used, and I realized that I needed to create my own business if I wanted creative control of all of those things. I also wanted to do customized treatments and every place I went, they did the same exact facial treatment on everyone, no matter what their skin type or condition, which seemed crazy to me.
Once I set out to create my own business, it gave me the ability to control every element of the design, from the logo and business card and website, to the treatment menu, to the product lines I use and sell, and my interactions with clients. I also love creating an inviting, tranquil, healing space anywhere I am working, which is such a lovely part of the job.
I started out working in our guest house in West Hollywood in 2000, then in 2005 I opened a full-service spa with 5 treatment rooms, and employed many estheticians, massage therapists, acupuncturists, and a chiropractor. We hosted spa parties and bridal events and some celebrity events there, and it was a lot of fun. We built out the space from scratch, which used to be an art gallery, which was challenging but very exciting. When that lease was up after 5 years, I went back to being more of a boutique business, which it remains today.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My career didn’t take a traditional path, in that I started right off the bat working for myself with no clients– looking back, I think I may have been nuts but it worked out. I just forged my path using my gut instincts, and maintaining my personal integrity regarding ingredients, products, treatments, and the client culture I like to create for my business.
I’m very proud that I have been doing customized organic skin care facials and peels for almost 25 years as my own business, long before the word organic was so popular, and also long before customized skin care was a thing. I pride myself on tailoring each treatment for that client’s unique skin care needs, to address their goals and achieve the results they want for their skin.
In hindsight, I wish I had a mentor to guide me along the way because it hasn’t always been easy running my business, but I have always persevered and made it work, even during the mandated closures of covid. I believe that my passion for helping clients, along with my knowledge and experience and expertise, plus using the highest quality products has brought clients back regularly for so many years. I pay great attention to detail and love creating a space and an experience that feels really luxury and relaxing while also getting amazing results for my clients.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Los Angeles is such a vast city, but within the city limits are so many incredibly diverse areas with a lot to see and do (and eat).
If my best friend was coming into town, I’d want to take a few days and go up to Santa Barbara, eat some great food, drink amazing wines in that area, enjoy the dog beach and many hikes and parks, and the peaceful beauty they have there.
In LA, I’d go to Little Tokyo which is one of my favorite neighborhoods, explore some of the shops there and of course have the best sushi outside of Japan. The Japanese supermarkets are also really fun.
We would visit LACMA or MOCA, check out a show at the Taper or the Geffen, see a movie at the iPic, go to the Hollywood Farmer’s Market, hang out in Larchmont Village, and spend time in Silverlake, Echo Park, and Eagle Rock which are some of the most fun areas with bars, restaurants, record stores, and mom & pop shops. I love supporting small business, especially female owned small business, whenever possible and will go out of my way to do so.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have to give a shout out to the Conservatory of Esthetics, which was in Culver City when I was in esthetics school, and even after I got my license. I did about 300 extra hours of classes and hands-on education there both during and after esthetics school and it was so valuable to my base of knowledge and to the evolution of my technique. The educators were fantastic and that is really where I got so much of my best learning.
Also the IECSC show every year in Las Vegas is an amazing resource for classes, workshops, and training, as well as exposure to a variety of vendors, brands, and education. I go every year and have for almost 25 years.
Last but not least, Eminence Organic Skin Care has been one of my main vendors since 2000, and the level of integrity of their ingredients/formulations is absolutely unparalleled. Their focus on educating estheticians (and our clients) is the best in the industry and I have learned SO MUCH from their incredible trainers and classes over the years.
