We had the good fortune of connecting with Shary Junco and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shary, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
Never stop learning. I self taught myself the majority of what I know and find my success from always finding better, faster solutions. Even when I’m very excelled in something, I don’t feel as if I’m moving forward if I’m not attaining a new skill or polishing an existing one. I always take time to read a book, take a trip somewhere new, or try a workshop out.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I was always drawn to art which is why people consider me a full service marketing agency in one person. Transitioning from an agency to entertainment was much easier than I anticipated it to be. The work was hard but the doors of opportunity keep opening the more I apply my skills to this industry and I’m having a lot of fun along the way.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a sucker for what I work in so I would likely suggest the Comedy Store and the Hollywood Improv for entertainment. I’m also a beach bum so Santa Monica, Venice, and Redondo are my favorite beach spots for daytime activities. There is literally good food everywhere you go, but Jones in West Hollywood is pretty hard to beat.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Mark Hayes is not someone people consider a mentor of any kind, but he played a major role in transitioning my career from marketing to live standup comedy. He always showed support for my work and his books somehow helped me navigate Hollywood when I first moved to California. From getting me into comedy shows for free, to referring me to the comedians I looked up to, he truly deserves a shoutout. I really don’t know that I would have the clientele I have today without him.
