We had the good fortune of connecting with Shawhin Mosadeghzad and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shawhin, what principle do you value most?
From a creative lens, it’s to say yes to an idea if it has been on my mind for a few days. While some ideas come and go, if one excites me to the point where I start mapping it out in my head and working backwards to figure out how to make it a reality, that’s the green light to pursue it.

Rarely do these projects start out with the intention of appealing to or being used by others; rather, they are an outlet for me to be creative. The euphoric feeling for me is the 0-1 process of taking an idea and bringing it to life. Fortunately, a handful of projects I have previously worked on or am currently working on have had outcomes that have also benefited a small group of individuals, which is the cherry on top.

Often, the ideas have no relation to one another, and there is a high probability that I have zero experience in any of them. My curiosity, paired with naivety, gives me the push to further explore the idea and begin building it. The beauty of this process is not only having the opportunity to immerse myself in a new area but also to develop an appreciation for individuals who become experts in their field.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
There are two projects that I’m working on, that I’d love to share: one digital and one physical.

On the digital front I’ve been working on an iOS app called Split, with two other wonderful humans. Our aim is to play a role in preserving the experience of going out with friends at its most fragile point: paying for the check. We have been a part of and have also heard countless stories of how splitting a bill at the end of an outing can impact the experience due to differing preferences on how to split the check. We built Split for ourselves and others similar to us who would prefer to have a seamless option of only paying for the items they ordered, without the need to calculate everything correctly on their own. Today, we are fortunate to support many members across the country by helping them save money and minimizing the bitterness (pun intended) of splitting a check.

The other is an apparel brand I recently launched, called Everything Ends. As someone who has dealt with anxiety quite a bit, I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about past events or worrying about future ones, which take away from the opportunity to be in the moment. I know I’m not the only one who experiences this. The aim for the brand is to serve as a means to an end, which is to be a gentle reminder to come back to the now. At surface level, the idea that everything ends appears dark, but when we look at it deeper, it’s freeing.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The irony here is that when I ask the same question to guests on my show, The Early Team, they always note that it can’t be boiled down to just 1-2 individuals. And for me, the same holds true, as there are countless individuals who deserve a shoutout and my deepest gratitude.

It’s important to me that I call out one individual, my uncle Moe Rabbanifard, who passed away in November 2022. Moe was an entrepreneur, musician, and artist. He was a giant, and his presence, encouragement, and love were all I needed to pursue my ideas. He supported them without question, whether they made sense to him or not. His influence on my life is endless.
