Meet Shawn Palmer | Hiphop artist & Somgwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Shawn Palmer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shawn, what inspires you?
I’m inspired by my upbringing, not having much in this world has caused my imagination to wonder since a child. Not knowing, seeing or even living what you see on t.v made me want to bring it all into fruition for myself and others alike. When you don’t have a lot nothings unattainable so I dug deep inside myself and let my creativity takeover..where others see failure, destruction, and poverty…I saw potential and from that potential grew a concrete rose!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I can’t tell you too much about my art because im still getting to know myself and my art derives from inside. So a lot of times other people have been more accurate describing it…what I can tell you is that I vent through my music. Everything you hear from me is either what I’ve been through, known about, or go through, you will never hear me exaggerate too much in my music because the picture I’m painting is a biographical one. One that separates me from others cause it’s my life. When I write I’ll allow days or even weeks to go by while working on a song because one thing this career or even writing has taught me was that writers block IS NOT REAL!!!! It all in your head I realized this when I’d get frustrated and I’d think to myself “Am I really cut out for this?, will I have anything Interesting to say??” That went on for about 2 years (on and off of course) when I came to the realization that I haven’t even lived life yet nor have I even begin really telling people about my life. I started taking whatever feelings I had and writing them down immediately when I felt it, I’d be at work with a book to read and to write in next to me on a speed rack so whatever ideas popped up it was taken down!! I’m overly dedicated and I say that because I rarely spend time with friends and my families on the East coast and I haven’t seen them in almost two years. I strive to be myself, to outdo myself, to out hustle myself, to look up at myself…but I couldn’t do any of this without 1st believing in myself and understanding my capabilities..and there’s one message I’d like to leave with you all…..People will always do what they want, so let them. In the meantime do you and be what you want never let another persons actions dictate yours!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
No lie I don’t go out, if I do it involves music. So we’d be in the same boat if they were to come visit…I’m truly overly dedicated.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wanna give a shoutout to all of the women who helped raise me into the man I am today. Without their guidance, words of encouragement and overall love..I’d be in jail or dead somewhere. My Mother, Aunts, Grandmothers, Great Grandmother and last but not least my two loving Sisters. These women have helped me throughout my entire life, my Dad was not around and has no presence In my life so I had to rely on my wit, experience from others as well as myself, and if ever I needed some answers I couldn’t find within myself…I could always count on these women. So here’s to the deities who made me. I love you all
