We had the good fortune of connecting with SHERE AU and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi SHERE, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Starting my own business has been a goal for me ever since I was young, being brought up in a family full of business owners and self-starters really sets out this path for me. Be it digital content creation, travel influencer, or Le Fleuriste (a brand I started that specializes in preserved flowers and home decor), it usually starts from a small idea or a hobby I love.

Building your own brand or business from scratch is the most amazing feeling in the world, it is when you get to see your small idea turn into big milestones. I really wanted to create something that would provide value to people and also impact them even in the slightest way, this is the satisfaction I enjoy as every minute I put in is for something I love and believe in.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a digital content creator and have been creating travel, fashion, and lifestyle content for more than 5 years. Apart from distributing content on my social platforms, I also work with many brands to create visual content for their brands’ use, which is a little more behind-the-scenes.

I started with a small interest in photography, from having absolutely no clue of what I was doing to now, getting paid to create content for some of the biggest brands out there, and getting paid to travel to different countries for content creation. I get to stay in the best hotels, attend the most exclusive events, meeting all the other talented creators out there, it’s definitely a valuable experience. The longer I work as a creator, the more I realize how much passion I have for doing what I do despite all the struggles. Being a content creator is kind of like you are operating a 10-people company on your own, we are our own photographer, director, manager, sales, etc. it’s definitely overwhelming. The hardest part of being creators is definitely getting clients and brands to respect the value of our output, as there are still many companies trying to get out of paying creators for their work. That being said, I believe as a creator, the key is to be consistent and to deliver quality, no hard work will go unnoticed.

I always give my best effort into every piece of content I create, regardless of collaboration or getting paid, it’s my way of expressing my creativity through a unique style and perspective. The goal is to be consistent with my content’s tone, and aesthetic; each creation is like a painting that came to life, visually vibrant and memorable. Throughout the years, I have been constantly improving my skills, be it production or editing, or just simply updating myself on the latest trends, I am proud of how my content direction and quality have evolved over the past few years.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would say the food here in Hong Kong is definitely the highlight of the city, it would definitely be a restaurant-hopping trip where they could try all the best food from around the globe at one place, from street food to michelin-star restaurants. We would then charter a boat to some islands in Sai Kung and enjoy a little slice of Nature in this crowded city. And of course, night life is a fun part here as well, where there are so many amazing speakeasy bar and lounge for a good time down at Central and Soho.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My boyfriend and my friends are definitely my biggest supporters, they were there for me every step of the way and really pushes me to reach my goals. My grandma has also been the biggest supporter and inspiration in my family, she has been a self-starting business owner for decades; she’s the one who really encourages me to try and take that scary step forward. The path hasn’t been easy, but I am really grateful for everyone who has ever given me the motivation to thrive and grow.
