We had the good fortune of connecting with Shi’Darius Barrett and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shi’Darius, why did you pursue a creative career?
I chose an artistic career in entertainment to mainly inspire and tell stories. As a kid, I felt performing was a way to express myself. I loved performing as a kid on stage and making up characters in my imagination to entertain others on YouTube. The reason was to tell a story, sort of like a preacher with a valuable lesson behind it. I feel the biggest reason I chose an artistic career was to tell my story to inspire.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
One of the biggest motivations for me is my family. I always work for my family, and rarely work for me because it’s my sort of fiduciary duty being the oldest son. You can not take anything with you. I love telling stories and being raised in church I always wanted to tell stories from the bible but in a modern angle for the common man to understand amd relate to. The biggest lesson I’ve learned in my life so far I’d have to say things are not easier as they seem to appear. Many things in my personal life and work life I never imagined would happen, be that good or bad. I practice my religion being that I am Christian, but accept all people from all religions in my life that are focused on doing good for humanity and nature for our heavenly father above in the blue skies. Take life day by day. Also a very important tip is to be hard on myself as much as I am.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Favorite places in the city, starting with the Griffith Observatory Santa Monica Beach and Venice Beach are always great places to visit while traveling into the city or anytime. I would say I have many restaurants that are my favorites. I love eating seafood, soul food, and any type of pasta. Taco trucks in LA are a must! I have yet to attend a Lakers game. Attending a Lakers game is a must if you get the chance. There is never a boring moment in the city of angels.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Throughout my journey in the arts, I’d like to thank my mother and grandmother, who raised me. I was honestly very surprised as I got older at the amount of support my mother had for me pursuing a career in the arts. I’d like to thank my grandfather as well. My family is very supportive. My siblings and cousins, too, I’d like to thank. My family is a huge support system for me today. Humbly speaking, I like to say I was raised with genuine love. Family is everything. Education was my focus as a child and stressed on my upcoming.
