Meet Shiqing Deng | Painter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Shiqing Deng and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shiqing, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
I think my career as a artist taught me so much, make me be patient and focus on what I do, and getting to understand myself more and more.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I want to be an professional artist when I was young, in China you have to take intense training and exams to get to the art school, so that period of time on training is such a nightmare for me, drawing and painting everyday, everybody trained in the exact same style which is most favored by the art school, and I personally hate that style but in order to get into college I have to do it, for me it is a huge challenge, I have to give away a lot, I’m so glad that training only last half year, otherwise I don’t know if I can hold any longer. But of course I still learn the fundamentals through that time and make me a hardworking artist.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Most of my friends are artist, so definitely museums, I lives in New York, besides Met museum, Frick collection is great and less people. also St.Patrick’s Cathedral is a wonderful place to see, the architecture is spectacular.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I love museum, all the the old master is my inspiration, and of course my talented friends, I always use them as my muse, Atalanta, Erica, Madeline and Zoe.
