Meet Shoneji Robison | Co Owner Southern Girl Desserts

We had the good fortune of connecting with Shoneji Robison and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shoneji, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
It’s interesting because being a business owner wasn’t a goal. After many years of being told, I finally bought into the idea of being really talented in the kitchen. I realized that I was able to do things and provide a product that felt more authentic to my Southern roots.
Once I decided to take the leap, I just jumped. No real plan, just started swimming! Any business guru would look at my story and say, ” what the hell we’re you thinking?” LOL!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am the co owner of Southern Girl Desserts. Over the years, I’ve been blessed to tweak family recipes have down, and create new ones that make up the arsenal of Southern delicacies that create the most beautiful sense of nostalgia with each bite.
My gift of pairing flavors and creating a consistent product has served us well for 17 years.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is actually a hard one for me because when I’m not working I enjoy resting…. At home!
What I love about LA is the scenery when you can take a nice drive. I love a good restaurant and I love to dress up so we would probably a nice upscale dinner in Malibu or a nice rooftop brunch downtown because the views are lovely!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Outside of our parents and close friends, there have been so many individuals that have lifted Southern Girl Desserts and aided us on this journey. One in particular is Gloria Mitchell. She was and still is such an angel spreading the good word. In the beginning stages of our business she spoke our name and put our product in front of everyone she knew. She sent memos to the endless organizations that’s she’s a part of and encouraged each of them to use our company for any special events. It’s beautiful to know that people will speak your name in rooms when you’re not present and Mrs. Gloria has been a constant cheerleader and supporter.
