We had the good fortune of connecting with Siarra T. Mong and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Siarra T., why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I pursued an artistic and creative career because storytelling is ingrained in my DNA. I grew up surrounded by a rich tapestry of cultures, traditions, and stories. From an early age, I was captivated by the power of storytelling to connect people, bridge divides, and inspire change.

Acting allows me to step into different worlds, inhabit diverse characters, and bring their stories to life. It’s a deeply fulfilling and transformative experience that allows me to explore the human condition, challenge perceptions, and evoke emotions in audiences.

Moreover, pursuing an artistic career is a way for me to honor my heritage and represent people who look like me on screen. I believe in the importance of diversity and representation in media, and I am committed to using my platform to amplify underrepresented voices and tell stories that resonate with audiences from all walks of life.

In essence, my decision to pursue an artistic career is a testament to my belief in the power of storytelling to inspire, educate, and unite us all.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art has stemmed from a deep-seated desire to authentically represent the multifaceted nature of human identity, particularly those like myself with a rich tapestry of Afro Asian Anglo Native American heritage. As an actress, I felt a profound calling to tell stories that resonate with diverse audiences, stories that reflect the mosaic of cultures and experiences that make up our world.

My journey to where I am today professionally has been anything but easy. Like many in the entertainment industry, I have faced numerous challenges and setbacks along the way. However, I have always been driven by my passion for acting and storytelling, which has helped me overcome these obstacles.

One of the key lessons I have learned is the importance of perseverance and resilience in the face of adversity. I have had to learn to embrace rejection as a part of the process and use it as motivation to continue honing my craft and pursuing my dreams.

I want to platform and showcase narratives that often remain untold, where individuals like me could see themselves reflected on screen, celebrating their unique backgrounds and experiences. This drive to amplify underrepresented voices and share the richness of our collective human experience became the driving force behind my decision to act.

In essence, my art is a reflection of my belief in the power of storytelling to bridge gaps, foster understanding, and celebrate the beautiful diversity of our world. Through my work, I hope to inspire others to embrace their identities, share their stories, and embrace the beauty of our shared humanity.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If a friend were visiting me, I would want to show them some of the best that my local area has to offer. I would start the day with a visit to Erin McKenna’s Bakery for a morning pick-me-up and vegan gourmet pastries before embarking on our day of exploration.

One of the first stops would be The Getty, the renowned art museum where we will soak in the stunning architecture and breathtaking views. It’s a great place to immerse ourselves in art and culture, sparking meaningful conversations and connections.

After exploring The Getty, we would indulge in some delicious Chinese food, either from Garden Wok or Pine and Crane, both known for their authentic and flavorful dishes. Food has a special way of bringing people together, and I believe sharing a meal is the most wonderful way to bond and create lasting memories.

To continue our day of adventure, we would head to the Westfield Topanga, or Calabasas Commons, both premier shopping destinations, where we could browse a variety of stores and perhaps pick up a few items and treats. After shopping, we would unwind at the Topanga Social or Crossroads, enjoying another bite to eat and soaking in the vibrant atmosphere of the area.

Throughout the week, I would make sure to introduce my friend to some of the most fun, interesting, and exciting people, places, and things in the area, like Malibu and hidden gems like El Matador Beach, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Overall, I would want my friend to experience the diverse and vibrant culture of my local area, from its art and cuisine to its shopping and social scene. Each stop would offer a unique and memorable experience, creating a trip filled with laughter, discovery, and meaningful connections.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to give a shoutout to two incredible individuals who have made a significant impact on my life and deserve recognition for their talents and contributions.

I’d like to shout out Aja Morris Smiley, a talented costume designer whose creative vision and attention to detail bring characters to life on screen. Aja’s work is not only visually stunning but also plays a crucial role in storytelling, helping to define characters and settings in a way that enhances the overall narrative.

Also, I want to shout out John Spicer, gifted musician, whose passion for music shines through in every note he plays. John’s talent is undeniable, and his music has the power to move and inspire listeners, creating a truly memorable experience.

These individuals have each had a profound impact on me personally and professionally, and I am grateful for the opportunity to shout them out and share their talents with the world.
