We had the good fortune of connecting with Sid De La Cruz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sid, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
It takes about 3 months give or take, to finish a score for a feature length film. During those 3 months, I compose the music, rewrite / revise music as many times as the director feels it’s necessary. Once the music is approved, notate the music, so musicians can perform it, hire musicians, find a recording studio, record, and get the music mixed and mastered, among other things. The amount of things that need to get done can vary from project to project.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I am actually proud about all of the work I have done. I have learned so much from each projects. I have learned the good things and I have also learned from the mistakes. I have learned what works and what doesn’t. Because of these moments, I have been able to improve. Getting to where I am not was not easy. There were many times were I would stay up very late just to meet deadlines. Sometimes, I would go to sleep at 5am, on projects that had very quick deadlines. Now, I don’t stay up until 5am anymore, because I have learned better ways of executing things. Also, another important thing was setting time to meet film makers. Even though that might be a bit obvious, that is a very important thing that helped me advance.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Ahh……Well, I like to go out and eat, so for sure, we would go to several places. I would go to Santa Monica, Santa Barbara, Hollywood, Pasadena and several other spots. Not only do these places have great restaurants to eat at but, they also have a very different environments. and of course, Disneyland. Assuming that Covid is over and or was never a thing.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family has been a huge help for me. Their love and support has helped and continues to help me move forward. Also, other composers that I have worked with and reached out to for guidance. Their help with how to approach certain situations and their support on me moving forward in this field has really been very helpful.
