Meet Silvie Bordeaux | Founder of Second Chances For Blind Dogs Foundation, INC

We had the good fortune of connecting with Silvie Bordeaux and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Silvie, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My soul dog Muffin who was a senior toy poodle went blind at age 11. Many people told me I should put him to sleep because he was bumping into everything and scared. I was terrified and wanted to help him out so in 2011, I invented Muffin’s Halo which is a device that acts like a bumper so blind dogs can navigate safely and with confidence. Muffin lived to be 15.5 years old and had a great quality of life as a blind dog because of his halo guiding him. I successfully developed and took Muffin’s Halo to market helping many thousands of blind dogs and then sold my company to Paw Prosper several years ago.
In 2014, I founded 501 c 3 non -profit organization, Second Chances For Blind Dogs Foundation, Inc. and we donate Muffin’s Halos to blind dogs in need, as well as help cover medical eye care expenses for financially struggling blind dog owners. Our website is Secondchancesforblindodgs.org for more information.

What should our readers know about your business?
Second Chances For Blind Dogs Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit organization whose mission is to help as many blind dogs as possible by donating Muffin’s Halos to help them navigate safely in this world and have a second chance. We also provide Coco Eye Care Grants to help cover medical eye care costs for blind dogs in need. So many blind dogs are dumped at shelters scared and disoriented. They are the first on the “to-kill” list. We are determined to educate the world on how a Blind Dog can have a great quality of life with the tools needed to soar. Our goal is to bring forth awareness for Blind Dogs and champion for them, so they can have the best chance of getting rescued and/or adopted. We help over 1,000 blind dogs a year.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
To all the blind dogs in the world who inspired me to do this as well as continue on. To my close friends, family and team who have been by my side through all the ups and downs. Forever grateful for your unconditional love and support!
