We had the good fortune of connecting with Simene’ Walden and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Simene’, what role has risk played in your life or career?
The first risk I ever took was believing what God said about me. I had messed up so much and was not qualified by the standard of people to do anything I was about to embark on, the things I am embarking on, and the things I will ever embark on.

Entrepreneur can be defined as a person who organizes and operates a business or businesses, taking on greater than normal financial risks in order to do so. If you are not willing to take financial risk in your business, you will not last long. I have taken many financial risks to learn, grow, and scale my business, my character, and my career.

The second risk I ever took was when I decided to unveil, unmask, and unmute my story of pain, trauma, deception, and losses in front of people who chose to judge, talk, mimic, leave, love, pray, support, and/or celebrate. The risk of what people would say, think, or behave towards me was a major risk I had to take. But I would do it all over again.

The greatest risk produces the greatest courage in your life. Take a risk to believe what God says about you and what He instructs you to do. Take a risk to tell your own story. Take a risk and start your business and make a positive and righteous impact on this now and next generation..

If I would have never taken a risk, I would not be a Best Selling Author, Book Publisher, International Speaker, Coach, Mentor, Creator of Pretty Healed, Unmasked To Heal, and Unmute Yourself, or the Host of several events, programs, courses, or anthologies. Take the risk.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
For 16 years I was a middle school reading teacher. On June 17, 2021, I ended my teaching career to focus full time on being a Motivational Speaker for the Academic System, Coaching, and Publishing. I spent years going to schools praying for them and praying God’s will be done with the children, families, communities, stakeholders, and leaders of each district, parish, and state. It was prayer that others prayed for me, the ongoing prayer of Jesus, and the prayers I prayed that got me through teaching, creating, and starting a business during the slow times, the hard times, the difficult times, and the great times.

Prayer is my game changing plan. Prayer is where I get the plan and after prayer, I do the work needed and necessary. I have invested in coaches, mentors, classes, programs, courses, conferences, professional developments, buying and reading books, and spending time with God. I can never forget the many women and few men who have poured into me spiritually.

One lesson I have learned is that people will never invest in your services or products if you refuse to invest in yourself at a high level. You deserve it and if people can’t afford you, if they are your perfect customer, they will come back when they can.

While I was able to make a difference in the lives of children as a public school teacher, I am excited to step into my next to make an even greater impact for more children, more families, more educators, more leaders, and more schools. I also look forward to helping more people publish their written works, share their stories unapologetically, and guide them through their unmuting and unmasking to heal process.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If you are hanging with me this weekend, we are headed to the States’ US Capitol and surrounding areas to enjoy a weekend of fun, laughs, and good food. Most people call it the DMV for the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia.

First stop will be lunch at Cantler’s Riverside Inn to enjoy some soft crabs. Afterwards, we will head to Baltimore, MD to check into our hotel at the Inner Harbor. We will enjoy some sightseeing, shopping, and girlfriend time. We will grab tickets for the Spirit of Baltimore Dinner Cruise. If we have any energy left, we will end the night off at Tiki Lee’s Dock.

The next day, visit the Annapolis City Marina. Lots of great restaurants around to choose from for lunch. Afterwards, we will head to Washington, DC where we will spend the night. We will check into The Hyatt House Washington DC/The Wharf but we are not in for the night. We will freshen up, shower if needed, and head back out. Our first stop will be to La Vie for dinner which is right outside of our hotel’s door. The last planned stop for the evening would be the Moonlight Tour by Trolley to see the monuments at night.

Let’s head to Northern Virginia today to experience Tyson’s Corner Center. We can shop and have lunch before heading back to Maryland. Final two stops of the evening will be The National Harbor and MGM Grand. We can enjoy any of the restaurants at The Harbor or MGM Grand. The Ferris wheel ride will be our nightcap. Before I forget, we have to stop by Furlough Cheesecake at The Harbor and grab some cheesecake.

The last day we will enjoy some girlfriend time at the National Museum of African American Culture and History, the Smithsonian Gardens, and a photo shoot at The Navy Yard. We can catch an evening show at IPIC North Bethesda before heading back to DC for the evening. We can find a nice Thai restaurant in China Town or chill at The Delegate Rooftop overlooking the city.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shout out Next Level Speakers Academy with our God fearing Coach and Mentor Jeremy Anderson. The way he pours into all of us and shares how to launch your speaking business that is targeted at the academic system is hands down life changing. The love, encouragement, collaboration, and support that you get from all the other Next Level Speakers in the academy is gold. If you are a speaker and want to start speaking in schools, NLSA is highly recommended.
