Meet Simeon Ruiz P. Narcis | Writer/Director/Composer/Music Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Simeon Ruiz P. Narcis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Simeon, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I pursued a creative career because this is all I know. I can best communicate my feelings by expressing myself in the films and music I produce. It is a privilege to be a creative person, and my goal is to help foster other minority creatives. My entertainment company, WeBePeoples, is all about community and representation in the creative field. If I don’t see more minorities in the spotlight in the entertainment space, then I’ve failed as an artist and need to do more. The world is designed for you to be insecure, stay true to yourself.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I was born with a learning disability, central auditory processing disorder. Doctors told my mother I wouldn’t be anything in life and settle. I struggled so much growing up, but thanks to my loved ones, I’ve never given up and have beaten the statistics. My support system is the greatest blessing in my life.
Movies/Music/and videogames have been a staple to who I am today. I understand the importance of media on society and how powerful it is in influencing people.
I am a multi-hyphenate artist, Filmmaker, and composer dedicated to amplifying marginalized communities’ voices through storytelling. My artistry challenges societal norms and fosters empathy, I am a powerful advocate for diversity and inclusion in cinema. Every moment has brought me here, with all the ups and downs. Perseverance is my message to anyone and everyone. Kindness sets me apart, I care deeply about society and my craft.
I am most excited about releasing my next music EP “Characters of Acceptance”, it’s a series about the stages of grief as a result of the passing of my late grandfather. The music is dedicated to him and helped me process his death.
I want my fans to feel whatever I make. Whether it’s film/music or any other art, I care about authenticity, and expression from oneself. I give everything my all, and what I create bears everything about me. So all can see.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take my friend to Little Tokyo. I enjoy the different stores and food spots there. To me, hanging out means catching up with someone, watching funny reality TV shows, and singing karaoke songs. Not so much a location adventure but rather the things I do with friends are more simple. Just sit on a couch and talk about our lives, that to me is the best moments I have with friends. A moment of peace.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shout out to my family and my USC cohort. My Mother, Simone, Father, Andy, Sisters Andia and Anissia, cousin Cameron, Moriah, and many more have always supported my dreams. They all sacrificed so much for me to be here in LA pursuing filmmaking and music. I miss them so much since they live in Florida, but I always have them to check in on me. My USC cohort is a special group of people following their dreams. From bad days to good, I have made so many great friends and many opportunities flourish as a result. Special thanks to my Lizard team from the first semester at USC and the documentary project team “La Línea,” which is a heartfelt film about the American dream.
