We had the good fortune of connecting with Simone Torres and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Simone, what’s one piece of conventional advice that you disagree with?
I had a mentor that told me that I had to pick one thing to do. That if I wanted to vocal produce, I had to stop singing. That people would not be able to view me as multiple things and that to do more than one, would dilute them all. While I can see where he was coming from and this is a typical piece of advice, I think that all of our brains work differently. Being multifaceted is not a bad thing! I think it’s a superpower. It’s okay to have multiple passions, talents, and goals. The hard part comes in the discipline; making sure that you are spending time to water each of those seeds. Will it make things easy? Absolutely not haha, but I will say that these days while I am tired, I feel fulfilled and like I am walking on my right path. Never again will I pretend to be only a part of myself to fit someone else’s idea of me.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think what makes me unique as an artist is my vast vocal production and engineering background. The technical side of making music is such an extension of my creativity. My vocal production has made me a better artist and musician. I absolutely love diving into the nitty gritty of vocals and breaking down all of the aspects of one of my productions, because there are always tiny details that no one but I will hear lol. But I love it so much. Be that a crying vocal in the back, whispers, different tones im doing to make something feel like a choir, or noise in the vocal because I sang the whole thing straight when i was writing and kept the demo vocal for the feeling. Making music is my favorite thing to do in the world, and I am so grateful to finally be releasing my own music. I’ve truly waited my whole life for this.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ooo, okay well it depends what you’re into but there is so much to do in LA! One of my favorite date night spots (with yourself or a loved one haha) is to go to Cha Cha chicken in Santa Monica right before sunset, order the ropa vieja with maduros, and a mango guava agua fresca, and then take it to go. Grab a beach blanket and some pillows from your car, and eat the amazing food on the beach while watching the sunset, and then stargazing. Its the best because the night can either end there, or you can walk along the beach and chat!

Another one of my favorite things in Santa Monica is that on Sundays from 6-10pm, they have Salsa and Bachata for free outside on third street promenade. It’s the best. The fresh air, everyone enjoying life, culture, and dance. It’s so lovely.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My community has played a huge role in where I am today. From my grandpa who would introduce me to put on shows in his backyard, to even my ex who would stay up with me while I was pulling all nighters in college to get my production & engineering degree. I couldn’t have done any of this alone. Thank you to my family, friends, and colleagues who have supported me over the years and made me have an unshakable belief that I can do anything I truly set my mind to.
