We had the good fortune of connecting with Sivia Aguilar and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sivia, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process was just to go for it and not think too much otherwise I probably wouldn’t have started my business. I am the type of person who constantly self doubts herself. This was already challenging enough for me to do, but it’s always been a dream of mine to own my own business. I saw the opportunity and took it, not knowing if it was a good idea to start a business during the peak of Covid. I just thought if not now, then when?
What should our readers know about your business?
PrettynGoldd is a small Latina owned business. The goal was to provide good quality pieces without breaking the bank.
Jewelry has always played a major role in my life. Being raised in a Salvadorian household I remember always wearing my gold name bracelet, small gold hoops, and a gold necklace. Everyday essentials since i was a baby. I didn’t realize how much jewelry would impact my life until i was older.
I remember always asking my mom to buy me the $1 hoops because that was popular back then. Colorful hoops to match your shoes since we wore uniforms in midddle school.
Fast forward to being a teenager I remember buying jewelry that would tarnish the next day but didn’t really care. As long as i had my outfit complete i was happy. Something about accessorizing my outfits made me feel confident.
About 2 years ago during the peak of COVID, Im scrolling on IG and see this bracelet I was obsessed with. I saw the price $100 and immediately thought oh no I’m making this bracelet. I went on YouTube and typed in “how to make a beaded bracelet”. Next day I started practicing until i mastered it. That’s where the idea of PrettynGoldd came along. Making these beaded bracelets affordable for people that wanted good quality pieces but also affordable.
Weeks after I finally just said I’m going to start my own jewelry business.
What started off with beaded bracelets has now expanded to hoops, necklaces, rings, and now we offer 14k jewelry. Being a full time nanny and having a small business hasn’t been easy. Many challenges including finding the time to pack orders or even take product pictures. I saw a post one day on Instagram that said “if you can work for someone else 8+ hours a day ,, you can find 1-2 hours to work on your business “ and really puts things into perspective whenever I’m having a hard time with my business.
What sets me apart from others? i just don’t want to sell jewelry, I want PrettynGoldd to have a community of women who feel confident wearing my pieces. No matter the occasion, PrettynGoldd has pieces for all kinds of occasions. I want women to express themselves through our pieces.
One of my favorite things about my small business is getting tagged on Instagram with people wearing our pieces. I love it, probably one of my favorite things about social media. Seeing people create different looks with PrettynGoldd pieces.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
. Ohh gosh. I definitely wouldn’t have done this without the support of my family and boyfriend. My boyfriend has been my number 1 supporter and someone who always pushes me to do better. From the first time i brought up this crazy idea to start up a small business during covid, he was right on board. No hesitation. Gave me advice on how to start off and we went from there. I really couldn’t be doing this without him. He helps me with anything i need for PrettynGoldd. If things need to be shipped out, packaged, or there’s a pop up that i need to attend , he’s there with me. Setting up and also cleaning up when it’s time to go. He’s supportive 100%
I feel pretty blessed for that.
My little sister is someone that has been such a great supportive system.
One of the reasons why I also started my small business, was because she started her small business first and it really inspired me. She’s such a go getter and it’s something I’ve always admired about her. If i need help with creating content for the week , or taking product pictures,, she helps me out.
The times that I’ve felt like I wasn’t doing things good with my business, she’s always there to hype me up. Tell me not to give up and keep going.
