We had the good fortune of connecting with Siyi Lin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Siyi, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
For me, transitioning into the art industry is a significant shift, but it is a choice I feel compelled to make. I have had a passion for music and film since I was a kid. I started learning piano and vocal at 4, and some of the happiest moments of my week were spent watching movies with my family. However, as an adult, I accidentally ended up in the technology industry. While technology is also an area of interest for me, art has always been buried deep within my soul, my most beloved field.

Because I have always believed that while technology can certainly have a positive impact on people on a physical level, art is not just a form of expression, but a more fundamental need. It has the power to bring happiness and hope to people on a spiritual level, leaving a profound and lasting impact on them.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Due to my nature, I have always been deeply interested in humanity from a young age. I enjoy learning about people’s experiences and stories, reading and writing. Additionally, my early education in music heightened my sensitivity to emotions, allowing me to feel the flow of emotions in melodies and listen to the stories each of them tells. Now, as a producer, reading scripts is a source of great happiness for me. I am accustomed to immersing myself in the characters, experiencing their journeys, and truly understanding the story. It is also my way of assessing whether it’s a good story or not—evaluating the logic, structure, twists, and character development within it. Throughout this process, I also draw on my understanding of the market and the feasibility of filming. I collaborate with directors and screenwriting teams to refine the script, formulate shooting plans, and see the project through to completion. The entire process feels like nurturing a life, and it brings me immense joy and a sense of achievement.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
In my eyes, Los Angeles is a city with a striking natural beauty and incredible diversity, encompassing cultures from all around the world. Both immersing ourselves in nature and exploring global cultures are among my favorite activities to do with my friends. Therefore, I intend to take my friends on various hiking and camping trips along different routes, and then visit restaurants that offer cuisine from various countries, indulging in the flavors of the world.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
When it comes to people I want to thank, there are truly too many, and I believe that everyone who has come into my life has had a reason for being there. Because I have a habit of contemplating every night before bed, I’ve realized that everyone in my life has taught me something to varying degrees. But the most direct support has come from my parents and a few important friends.

In regards to my decision to pursue art, my family has provided me with immense support, which has given me inner strength. Several important friends have also played a significant role at crucial stages of my life. For example, before deciding to switch careers, I had been working in the technology industry for many years, enjoying stability and career advancement. I was hesitant about entering a new field. However, a friend of mine, who transitioned from education to the field of social journalism due to her concern for the world’s development, inspired me. She travels all over the world and I know her life is far less comfortable than it used to be, but I see a spark in her eyes. She made me understand that there’s nothing more important than doing what I love most. A person’s motivation for doing something determines their mindset, and in turn, determines whether they can excel at it. So, I took that step.

Furthermore, after entering the industry, I needed to adapt and learn quickly. Fortunately, I met a few experienced and helpful friends who helped me grow rapidly and assisted me when I faced challenges I didn’t know how to handle.
